Ok, I just think this is really tacky.

I just went to online banking to pay a bill and I noticed the house owner cashed our rent cheque today - or deposited it whenever - bottom line is, it went through today.

While the cheque is dated January 1st, I do know that banks here will pretty much cash anything with a dollar amount on it, so that isn't the issue.

The thing is, why would she cash the cheque before rent day? I always send it to her at least a week in advance as I never want the rent to be late - however I don't think that gives her the right to cash it any old time she feels like it might be convenient for her.

For all she knows that is all the money we have - or what if we got paid at the end of the month and the money wasn't even in there yet?

Tacky tacky tacky.

That's bad Trailmix!! Our payday is on the 15th of the month and rent is due on the 15th so if our landlord cashed our cheque before payday we could have a problem on our hands!!

I completely agree. I do that, and one month, they tried to cash the check early. The check did't clear until the 6th of the month. Only reason I found out that they tried to cash it early was because I got a bit curious when the check didn't clear on the first or second of the month and called. You should definitely call your bank and complain about that.

Strange that any bank would cash a cheque without honouring the date.

Try that back home huh?

They would hold it for you, if they even took it.

People have a strange relationship with money here.

Post dated cheques mean nothing here

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I know a few banks would accept a post-dated cheque back in Calgary historically - and hold them - now they won't even accept them.

That is so tacky trailmix and cannot believe the bank allows it to be cashed early. She was probably behind with Xmas gifts and needed it for bills. some people.

Once, my old bank deposited my foreign check without a date. Few weeks later, they said "oups sorry, we can't do that...you forgot to put the date on the check, so we already took the money out given to you ...".

A lack of date in my case was crucial...after the fact!

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

I'm so annoyed with my husband's work.... every month they throw out everything in the kitchen fridge, literally EVERYTHING so it's empty... I guess to avoid gross things growing in there  ... they usually give them a day notice but I guess hubby didn't pay attention and when he went to get his lunch (nice crispy chicken breast that I made last night for him!) the whole bag was tossed including my tupperware and NEW cutlery!! Not to mention the fruit and snacks I packed! HOW RUDE!!
