Stressing over medical!!

So I had my medical yesterday, and everything went well, except for one part. There were a series of 5 questions that the doctor asked... things like... "Have you ever smoked regularly?", "Any history of mental disorders?", "Any history of drug or alcohol abuse?", etc.

Anyways, on one of the questions, I answered yes. The doctor than asked me a couple questions and told me that it was no big deal. He said he would leave it off the report, because he didn't think it was the kind of thing that the consulate was concerned about.

Now I'm freaking about over it!! What if he did write it down? I know that it is no big deal, but the people at the consulate may not know that.

Will the visa be automatically denied if they see that "yes" was answered to any of those questions?

Can you tell this process is starting to takes it's toll on me??

:(

I know some people have answered yes to past drug use there have been problems.

But if the doctor said they'd leave it off the report then I am sure they left it off the report.

Donne moi une poptart!

At my Interview in Vancouver- things were going great until he asked me "What medical condition do you suffer from?" I just looked at him and said "huh?" Then he says "On your medical report it says you suffer from a class B medical condition." He then proceeded to ask me about depression, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse- all to which I said no- the only problem I have had was my gallbladder and I had it taken out. He told me to sit down and he would phone the Doctors office.

A few minutes later he calls me back up and says "I haven't got a hold of them yet, if there is something you need to tell me, now is the time to come clean" I said I have nothing to tell you- my only medical problem was with my gallbladder." He points to something on the medical report and asks "What was this in January 2000?" I said that was when my gallbladder was removed. He told me to sit down again.

I got called up again. He said he got a hold of the Doctors office and this would have to be fixed or I will have problems down the road. At this time there was another man standing with him- he looked at the other guy and asked "So we can approve her and get her to pick up the Visa tomorrow instead of this afternoon?" The guy nodded and I was asked if I could come the next day and pick up my Visa.

I'm not exactly sure what the Doctor's office did that caused all this problem, but they did fix it and fax the new sheet back to them. I got my Visa the next day.

So whatever it is in your case- if the Doctor says he will not put it in the medical record- that is a good thing.

Someone else here was concerned a month or two ago about how they answered something as well so they requested a copy of it from the doctor.

Perhaps you would be able to do this to alleviate the worry?

ok, thanks guys. My rational side tells me not to worry about it. It didn't even concern me after my medical until last night.

The question I answered yes to was a medical related question, not a drug use question. Something that I no longer have, but wanted to answer honestly about. I know, and my doctor knew, it was nothing to be concerned with... I guess I just worry that if he decided to put it on my medical, the people at the consulate will not know that it is nothing to worry about.

I know there is nothing I can do now. I might call the doctor's to see if I can have an extra copy of the medical sent to me. It makes me feel better to know that if the consulate does have any concerns about the medical, that they may call the doctor directly. I think I've seen other people post the same experience, about having the consulate call the doctor to help clear something up.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that if he says he is going to leave it out, that he does. I just have this feeling that he may have added it anyways, not realizing that it could be taken very seriously.

I know Dr. Doane left things off my medical that were no longer an issue for me and had occured in years past ie. no big deal. Those questions are so vague, I believe (just my logic here) that they have discretion in how they fill in those answers.

Surely he would not have lied to your face... but a great idea to ask for a copy of the report.. hopefully that settles the matter :)

thanks Emancipation. Knowing your doctor left things off your medical makes me feel better. I didn't know if they have an obligation to report absolutely everything we tell them. That's why I'm nervous about him changing his mind and deciding to include what I told him.

I hear you! and it's not even the Dr you normally see - so there's no trust or relationship there at all.

I told him about several surgeries I had and depression that I had during my mid 20's, and none of that stuff was ever brought up in the interview or mentioned in the medical report that I could tell or see. Dr. Doane told me it was a simple process where the Dr. either recommend or not the candiate to the US gov (that's how he described it), it's a simple yes or no from what he said. I took comfort in that, and he told me I was AOK at the medical appointment.
