Tik just renewed her passport recently, like only a few weeks ago, and I was wondering, does her passport need to be valid for a certain number of months before her interview? I thought I read six months somewhere, but then I decided it meant it can't expire for six months after the interview. Now she's reading a website in Thai saying it needs to be valid for eight months before the interview. So does it need to be valid for a certain amount of time or no?

Thank you,

Drew

I agree with you - generally the passport must be valid for another 6 months to allow the person to travel - it doesn't make sense that it should have been issued 8 months earlier for them to grant her a visa - perhaps they are saying it must be valid for another 8 months to allow an additional 2 months for getting the visa and buying tickets etc. Perhaps someone going through the Thai consulate side can clarify. Good Luck

My husband's passport was expiring 5 weeks prior to visa issuance, and we got it renewed. It was only a week "old" when the visa was placed in it. I would be surprised to hear that there is a minimum requirement of age of a passport at all.

The 6 months thing is how much time is required for visa issuance prior to the passport expiring. In other words, the passport must be valid for at least 6 more months as a requirement for the visa.

Thank you so much! The wording wasn't very clear on the site where I read it, and from what she was saying on the Thai site is specifically said it had to be valid for eight months, but maybe they got confused or something. Thanks again!

Even if it said that, the context was eight months going forward.

Rin's children had their passports issued Sept 18th; visas issued October 4th. I wouldn't worry about it.
