Ok so we dont have an interview date yet...but were preparing just in case Montreal gives us short notice...so my husband is having his medical done next week... going today to get the pics taken.. on the checklist it asks for 5 identical pics.. my question is, they always date the back of the passport pics here in Canada..If we have them taken today...and dont end up with an interview until December or even into 2008..will the pics still be ok.. I cant find anything (and Ive been looking) that says they must be taken within a certain timeframe (30 days, 60 days...etc)

thanks

I got passport photos taken a few months before my medical, scanned them, and then had a pile of them printed. The reprints didn't have any date on them, and I didn't have a problem with them.

I went through Vancouver. Vancouver and Montreal consulates are different in a number of ways, and I don't know if this might be one of them. But I figured that one reason those photos might be OK is that we gave them to the doctor's office and consulate officer in person, so they could see that the photos were recent enough to still be a likeness of us (although my fiance says that I look like a criminal in mine :P).

Generally they do stamp and date them at places like Black's but just ask them not to stamp it (that's what I did).

I also ended up scanning, putting 4 up on a 4x6 and printing out my own at a Kodak kiosk from the "professional" ones and used those for AOS and EAD.

I got my pictures taken a few days before I left for Vancouver.

I got new ones here in the US for my AOS- the ones I got before Vancouver were over a month old by the time we got everything sent. I was mad because my pictures I got in Canada turned out good!

The photos you send in for your AOS and EAD are not going to be on the cards... the CRAPPY photo that you get taken at your biometrics appointment is what is going to be on the card. It'll be done under harsh flourescent lightening and with a crappy webcam on their computer. I'm not joking!

I thought it was documented somewhere on the government's website but when I looked I didn't find anything about how old a photo can be.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is paranoid about MTL's penchant for giving short notice. The only rule is that you must resemble your photo. That's it. I went crazy with the liquify filter in photoshop and gave my brother the ugliest sweater imagineable and that image is what is now in his passport. It was a five yo photo that I scanned and there was absolutely no problem. If you suddenly decide that you really wish to show your support for Sinead O'Connor or to pay homage to your misspent youth by having a scatological reference incorporated in your latest coiffure, then you will need a current photo. If you don't have a photoprinter then go to the Shoppers Drug Mart and get a 4 by 6 print for a quarter. Canadian passport photos require the stamp with the date and name of photographer but I know of several people who used their photoprinters to print their Canadian photos and there were no problems since most people at the passport office just look at the image and don't really care who took the photo.

I got my pictures taken a month or two before my medical, and they were roughly four months old before my interview at the Vancouver consulate. They weren't dated at the back since at that point I hadn't received a Packet 4 yet. They definitely would've given me hassle at the Canadian passport office though. I looked washed out and much too happy

I don't have anything to add about the pictures.

But I just wanted to know what they said at Dr. Seiden's office when you called? I called a couple of weeks ago to schedule dh's appointment and they wouldn't give us one without our interview date  Not even with our case #. Many people here said to call back. I just haven't yet. But wondering if they gave you a hard time and what was said.

All they told me was that you need an interview date but I didn't press the issue especially after they phoned the consulate on my behalf to check if my parents had an interview date. I had phoned them a few weeks before that and they told me that all you need is the case number. I don't know what to think. I might phone them tomorrow just to see what happens.

Hello Every-One,

So are you all agreeing that we can simply print our own head & shoulders photo from home (the size of a passport photo)?

That would be terrific...save some cash.

SpiritAlight edits due to extreme lack of typing abilities. :)

You will do foolish things.

Do them with enthusiasm!!

Don't just do something. Sit there.

If you are referring to vanee and misa talking about scanning them, I think they were saying that they had professional passport photos taken and then scanned those.

If you actually take the picture yourself, you have to be really careful. There are specific guidelines to follow. Personally, I wouldn't trust myself taking my own passport photo-type pic.

And if I totally misunderstood and this isn't what you were asking, then just disregard. ;)
