My husband and I just filed I-751 today, Oct. 11. My greencard expires on Oct. 14th, Sunday. I thought it was okay to mail my I-751 couple days before the expatriation date, but now I think it was way too late. I started feeling really nervous. Is there anybody who mailed I-751 right before the expatriation date?

As long as you don't plan on travelling outside the U.S., you will be alright probably.

You should be receiving an NOA shortly (probably in the next few weeks) that extends your GC for one year with travel and employment authorization. If you should travel outside the U.S. after receiving the NOA, just make sure you take your expired GC and the NOA for re-entry into the U.S., until your 10-yr GC arrives.

Thank you so much. That makes me feel much better. I'm not planning to go anywhere near future so I should be okay. Thanks, again.

You mailed it in, so don't worry too much about the date... with luck there won't be any problems with the application and you'll be just fine. The fine print on the application says it must be SUBMITTED during the 90 days, not received/accepted etc.

Karen - Melbourne, Australia/John - Florida, USA

- Proposal (20 August 2000) to marriage (19 December 2004) - 4 years, 3 months, 25 days (1,578 days)

STAGE 1 - Applying for K1 (15 September 2003) to K1 Approval (13 July 2004) - 9 months, 29 days (303 days)

STAGE 2A - Arriving in US (4 Nov 2004) to AOS Application (16 April 2005) - 5 months, 13 days (164 days)

STAGE 2B - Applying for AOS to GC Approval - 9 months, 4 days (279 days)

STAGE 3 - Lifting Conditions. Filing (19 Dec 2007) to Approval (December 11 2008)

STAGE 4 - CITIZENSHIP (filing under 5-year rule - residency start date on green card Jan 11th, 2006)

*N400 filed December 15, 2011

*Interview March 12, 2012

*Oath Ceremony March 23, 2012.

So it is submission date, not received/accepted date. Now I'm able to have good night sleep. Thanks!!
