Hi guys,

I have read all the message postings regarding the different embassies. I am still trying to decide where to have my fiancé go for the interview, any suggestions? I looked at the Ankara website which has a good section and info for Iranian applicants but the wait time is 9 weeks to get an interview, and Abu Dhabi does not have any update info. What would be the pro’s and con’s for Iranian applicants for these two places?

Up until today i would have said Ankara just because they handle so many Iranian applicants. If your SO speaks english well i do not see that either would be a problem. I think they only have a translater at AbuDhabi periodically.

But after the experience the past two weeks my rating of Ankara has dropped. They have absolutely no consideration for the fact that Iranian applicants must travel to Turkey and wait for them. My SO went Oct 1 to pick up his visa, his number was on the website as being ready, he has waited 10 days and now they have finally sent his passport back today so he will receive it tomorrow or Saturday but we don't know if it is with the visa or without.

In my mind the biggest concern would be the expenses to travel to and stay at each place while waiting for interview, medical, visa, etc.

Hey....thanks for the tip, that's horrible that they made him wait so long. I think that being from Iran, our cases are always doing to be delay more than they have to be.

So when he went to ankara, were you with him? My fiance reads and writes in English well but his speaking skills need practise. Can we request for a translator just in case?

thanks.

It's not the time for the interview that kills you, it's the time waiting for the administrative processing that is the killer. Most likely the visa for any Iranian will not be issued right after the interview.

They do start the security checks as soon as they receive the all the forms, they take the fingerprints at the interview but the fingerprints only take a few days to check.

As to the Ankara embassy I think they have translators but I am not positive. My fiance speaks english pretty well so it was not a problem.

Took four weeks from NVC to Abu Dhabi....

Interviews were in Farsi and English. My husband said the first interviewer was harsh, the second and third interviewers were nice.

But whatever the wait is for an interview, there will still be more of a wait afterwards for security clearances (AP). Don't believe what the Consular Officer says about AP taking only 1 month. The Visa Specialist at the Dept of State said that is a bold faced lie.

ok, so i'm confused. does the NVC set the appointment dates or does the consulate?

we're waiting for our NOA2 to come soon, but once that is done, the file goes to NVC (4 weeks) and then to ankara where they schedule the appointment (2 months later) so i'm looking at a minimum of 3 months from NOA2 until AP begins?

does it help that the beneficiary is a 20 year old woman with no ali/mohammad/mahmoud/ahmadi variants in any part of her name?

The NVC sets the visa interview date.

Every applicant has to undergo administrative processing....How long it takes is anyones guess.

If you look online at administrative processing, it involves having name checks done by the FBI. And right now the FBI is extremely backlogged both for US greenholders wanting to become citizens. In fact, the ACLU of SoCal filed a class action lawsuit just for this reason.

Hello,

Question; does the US embassy actually mails the packets and interview documents to Iran's address? i heard post office takes them off if they see it. or it's myth?

Well, My husband received the 3 package in the mail in Iran.

Still, nothing is guaranteed with the way relations are between the two countries.

I think once the NVC sets the appointment date for interview you should check the USCIS webpage about instructions preparing for the interview. Each Embassy has their own checklist.

I am going to start this process for my wife and I put Ankara as the consulate (two years ago when I applied for her based on my GC and now I am citizen - In I-130)

The file has been submitted. Is there anyway I can change the consular for processing. Apparently Ankara does a bad job on Iranian's applications and they are always behind the schedule + they are rude.

Do you guys have any suggestions for my situation?

I think if you call the NVC you can have them change where your documents get sent. If they have already been sent to Ankara on the other hand you are out of luck.
