My wife will be interviewing on the 25th of this month and I know once she gets here it will take some time til her social secutiy card arrives. does the process start once they approve her visa or once she enters the U.S.? About how long should it be before we get it?

Once she is here in United states.. its take two weeks.

About two weeks if the process works as it should.

Unfortunately even if you tick the box on the DS-230 for the social security card issuing process to be started once you arrive, it doesn't always happen. If you haven't got it after 2 - 3 weeks you would then have to go into a social security office and apply for it. If that happens it is about 7/10 days after you apply.

Immigration needs to forward the SS card petition to the SSA. I decided not to wait for that to happen and went with my husband the day after we arrived in the States. The SS office said they will process it as soon as immigration is done processing his paperwork, but at least we got that out of the way.

That doesn't save anytime though as it takes around 2 weeks for the paperwork to be processed anyway

Well, I didn't do it to save time but because it would've been almost impossible to get time off from work at a later date to go to the SS office to get it taken care of since I know immigration will most likely not take care of his SS paperwork.
