IR over CR

My husband and I will have been married for 2 years in early December. If he has a CR interview before this date, but enters the US after this date, will be be granted a CR or IR status?

Would you recommend we go for the IR in this case? (I just found out that lifting conditions on the CR costs more than $500).

Thanks.

If he interviews before the 2 year anniversary, the visa will be CR1. If he then enters the US after the 2 year anniversary, the visa is still CR1 but he is eligible for a 10 year green card, so no removing of conditions. He may need to be diligent at pointing this out to the CBP officer at POE, however.
