I have no stores near me to buy zabiha meats. There are markets in Memphis but it is a 2 hour drive. I have found this meat market online, Midamar meats. Has anyone ordered from them? I have been eating halal, but now zabiha, but when Hachemi gets here I will have to start. If anyone knows of any other online food stores let me know.

Thanks,

Meriem (F)

Meriem,

I have ordered from Midamar and http://myhalalmeat.com/webshop/customer/home.php

There are places to buy zabihah meat where I live, but they lack variety (we really only get ground beef and chicken breasts). We have gotten lamb but I am not a fan of it so that is for my husband alone, and I don't want to touch goat. For steaks, turkey, lunch meats, I shop online. The Midamar hotdogs are great! The schwarma is greasy but it is a quick meal, yummy and the package is huge. Good steaks too. The one thing with Midamar is there shipping takes longer than they claim. The meat was still cold when it got here, but I don't think it could have gone much longer, and the weather wasn't even that hot then.

Are there are any halal restaurants nearby? They may have a source for zabihah meat. We received a freezer as a wedding gift. We will buy 20-25 pounds each of chicken and beef at a time. They give us a great price, much cheaper than online. If you cannot find a closer place through a restaurant, maybe try buying in bulk and you will only have to make the trip every few months.

Also, keep checking http://www.zabihah.com/ because places are added all the time and you may find one you don't know about.

Rebecca

Thanks Rebecca, I guess I will start ordering from them soon. The closest Halal resturant or grocery store is in Memphis. May go some weekend to check them out. But with the price of gas would be almost cheaper to order online.

I would keep checking on the website too. I know Hicham and I found a place locally that we absolutely love. It was not on there and Hicham just happened to spy the Arabic writing one day. I added them to Zabihah.com because I wanted others to be aware.

Have you tried baking it in the oven? I don't like the Jennie O turkey bacon. Hmmm, what is the one I get?

If you do have that kind of craving, try the Jennie O turkey ham though. That tastes a lot like real ham. Mmmmm...

Be real careful with the turkey bacon. My step-dad went out to get some for my husband last time we visited. It still had pork in it for flavoring. I can't remember which one I finally found in the store was totally pork-free. Just read the label.

BTW...I never realized just how much pork my family eats until I went to visit them in March. I swear it seemed like that is all they were eating!!!! My grandmother was telling me that she never thought I was a picky eater. My uncle then asked her what she is thinking. That I probably don't eat pork much anymore and all she was doing was giving it to me in ten different ways. (Go uncle!)

Yeah, the whole pork in the restaurants really irks me!!! Can't order any sandwiches without bacon on'em. Salad, forget it... taters, forget that too... I get tired of asking for no bacon and then having to return it coz they put it on anyway....if they were only all like subway..made-to-order..that'd be nice. It's nearly impossible in my tiny town to find anything without pork in it. If I can find something..it's at least 1.00 more expensive than the rest..what a load of crud if u ask me.....

I've already had a lifelong battle with the restaurant/other's cooking thing. I'm allergic to poultry and you know there is chicken in darn near everything, so adding pork to the list was kind of easy for me. Equally frustrating, however. I eat mostly fish and beef. I really got hooked on goat in Egypt, but can't find any here.
