I am a HUGE college sports fan and I have had this dilemma.

What I did was I went to our student bookstore and just bought a bandana with my college mascot on it. It was just big enough to use. It was the closest thing I could find.

I'm not sure about MLB and NFL teams though.

I think I'll go to the fabric store this weekend and get some red sox fabric, use that as an underscarf and then wear a red hijab over it.............or just use it as like a do rag type and wear a red turtleneck with it. I wanna be decked out for Red Sox day at work. :) (To put this in perspective I did paint my face red in 2004 :energetic: )

I think you're on to a multi-million dollar market like the lady that made muslim bathing suits for woman. She became a millionaire in the first year.

Umm ... no. It would be a particularly American phenomenon.

But ... sounds interesting. :)

As for marketing ideas, ugh, licensing sucks. As a personal project - you can do it ... but commercial ... good luck with it.

I was thinking that the market would be big. I mean when I look at most hijabs online they all have a certain style depending on where they're from. For example in Egypt the shayla is hip, in Turkey it's the more traditional silk scarf worn like a triangle, etc.

What I DONT see is an American hijab. I DO see American women (born in America) wearing turtlenecks and doo-rag style hijabs and I dont' seem to find that anywhere else as much, though sometimes you see them.

I am a muslimah and now a hijabi but you know what I"m also a die hard Red Sox and Pats fan and I'm also 1/2 irish and 1/2 polish and just because I'm muslim I don't think I should have to dress like I'm from the Middle East...........not that there's anything inherently wrong with the way they dress mind you.

I need to find my own style and I really don't think that I'm the only one going through this.

I think I"ll make two Pats and two Red Sox hijabs and I'll keep one for myself and sell the extra one on Ebay and see what kind of response I get. I'll let you all know what happens!!!!!

I bought one similar from splashgear.com and I hated it. I think you either love it or hate it. I know that Rahma loves hers but then she's an avid swimmer so that's different. I just like to dip my feet in and hang out in the hottub and for that it wasn't all that great. I wore it on a trip to Disney this April and when I got out of the hot tub it was about 70 degrees outside and because all of the fabric was wet I FROZE!!! I couldn't go back and change because the kids still wanted to swim so I had to stay in the hottub and turn all wrinkly until they were done.

If you love swimming and you just go from the pool to the lockerroom I"m sure it's great but to just hang out by the pool with the rest of the crowd it's not that wonderful imho.

I should sell that on ebay too!!! lol

Whoa ... those are so grossly overpriced. I don't see why a simple lycra style wouldn't work for that : http://www.alhannah.com/products/hi1335.html

Isn't that what they make sports wear from ... and it's like what, less than 1/4 the price too. It's a shame, some people are tying to bring "designer" goods to the Islamic market & get rich from people who want to dress religiously. They slap their name on things - then charge 4-10 times what they should for the same kind of item you can get cheap. Haram alay-hom. They should be ashamed of themselves.

doodle,

I think it's a great idea. I'll be interested to see how it turns out. Let me know how you end up making it as I might need to make one too! And I really do agree with your sentiment regarding an American style. Too often when I am shopping for work appropriate or even casual clothes all you find is beaded tunics etc. Which is fine and yea I like to wear them sometimes but really I want to find something so that I look like every other woman in America just in longer, looser proportions. What is your vision as to how you're making these? Square? Oblong? LOL sorry I'm super interested though!
