This is a ridicoulus situation. Chris, you gave us some pretty good info. I think I will follow your steps. Instead of using JSC, I will use the time to get all the docs and translate them.

NVC operator, told us that anybody can translate the docs, you only need to write at the bottom of the page that the person is fluent in both languages and is therefore able to translate it, and of course that the translation is accurate. No need to certify anything.

This is such a pain in the butt though!

Should be a disinterested third-party making the statement, and the statement should be notarized.

Today my wife found the request for the DS-230 in the mail with a check list saying that we need to send only part I + passport. And well, that's what we decided to do... I'll keep my finger crossed hoping not to receive any RFE, but hey I'm just following what they asked for... I'll keep you posted. My pack leaves today with overnight mail to NH.

You & I are on the exact same timeline for the DS-230, so I sincerely hope they don't review the original documents that I sent in either (which are incomplete for several reasons), and instead just ship the case file out to the consulate ASAP.

Regarding the translation for NVC, really all the info I found don't talk about a third party or notarized translation. I cannot find the link to the info page but all they talk about is a certification that the person that translates is able to do it. They have plenty of time at the interview to review the translation or the original docs if they have a problem.

But anyway this is only for general info. When my wife told me about the checklist I was so happy, they basicly gave me the official answer... rule #1 never send in stuff that is not required, they only requested standard processing but my letter was dated september twenty something... so I guess the October 1st rule might apply.

I know this rule, but the problem was NVC's instructions and operators have been indefinite about what documents were required since September 17th. Operators finally said, for me anyway, if you have the original documents, send them but we may or may not review them here.

So, I don't know what is going to happen to either of our cases, but I guess we'll find out in a few weeks...

I guess a lot of them right now are confused with the changes. Have you tried talking to a supervisor?

I guess a lot of them right now are confused with the changes. Have you tried talking to a supervisor?

We had to pay $70 to get those docs sent here (BTW = Russian post office will not allow original documents to be sent in the mail, even registered mail, so a private carrier like UPS had to be used), and the website instructions said to send them before my DS-230 was generated, so I wasn't about to not send them to NVC unless they specifically told me I could not send them, which is not what they said.

I will talk with them again about this subject once my DS-230 posts to the case. The last NVC operator I spoke with did briefly switch off the line before advising to send the original documents in, so I guess that was a quick supervisor inquiry? However, at this point, I don't think there is much I can do except confirm with that they have the docs, which I may not be able to do until DS-230 review is done?

Your concerns were my concerns too. For most countries, it is not fun and easy to obtain documents in original. I just hope that they will be sure on the information that they provide us, because if they are not and they really don't need these documents then it's all our time, money and efforts that get wasted.

Keep us posted :)

Hello all,

Has there been any news on this? Has anyone sent in the DS 230 as if it were standard processing only to receive an RFE for original documents?

We just received our DS 230 request, but are considering waiting until our original docs are ready (still waiting on birth certificate) in order to send it in altogether (as this is what Chris Parker was advised to do by nvc).

However, if they are not going to review the documents at nvc, we are wasting valuable time not sending it in now. On the other hand, an RFE if they have really switched us to appt post would also put us behind in terms of timing.

Any experiences with this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Megan

The changes are now definitely effective. In fact, many people got RFE's for original documents in the first week of October, even those who submitted their DS-230 in September but were still under pending review come Oct. 1st.
