Ok so this is pages 1 and 2 of 4 as I mentioned above.

- I was wrong, page 1 only has 1 barcode - this example was for the I-864 so was addressed to the Petitioner

- Priority date on page 1 is your own priority date

- Page 2 - Name under the IR1 is the beneficiaries name

- Date at the bottom of both pages is the same as the date of the letter

Wonderful! Thank you so much!

There was no color logo on page 1, correct? The barcodes are covered almost exactly over their occupying area, correct?

I will work tonight on a WORD doc to print this, and post it to the pinned James' thread when ready.

Thank you once again!

PS: Somebody please confirm if the DS-230 RFE looks any different.

Yes, there was no color logo (these are actual scans of the forms - I scanned them before sending the originals back to them for my first checklist).

The barcodes are covered almost exactly over the occupying area - however I reduced the copy size as it scanned at a larger size - so the size is modified- if you know what I mean :). Should give you a pretty good idea though as the 'line up' of the text and barcodes is correct.

Wow, this is the RFE coversheet for the DS230??? I got this one when my I-864 was completed and the missing information was my DS230. At least just in case I will be RFE'd on my DS230, I can send them the one I already have. I'm sorry I am getting so paranoid, still no word on my DS230 review.

Thanks trailmix!

We don't know yet if an RFE on a submitted DS230 is the same coversheet.

Trailmix has indicated this is the RFE coversheet for a submitted I864. They might be the same. Somebody who has received an RFE on their DS230, pleaee compare and tell us if that one is any different (if it is, we'll need to make two versions).

Ok so this is pages 1 and 2 of 4 as I mentioned above.

- Priority date on page 1 is your own priority date

- Page 2 - Name under the IR1 is the beneficiaries name

- Date at the bottom of both pages is the same as the date of the letter

Folks (trailmix in particular), please check the attached file and the following usage instructions for the I-864 RFE coversheets, before I post them to the James' shortcuts pinned topic. I would like to weed out any obvious mistakes or omissions before I bring this to everyone's attention for the rest of time....

-------------------

Okay folks, because I got an RFE for the I-864, I've decided to do the James thing and create another coversheet using his grand style and rhetoric. As of this writing, this new coversheet and barcode sheet is untested and strictly a beta version, but I'm going to use these instructions for myself today, so we'll be able to confirm very shortly if it does in fact work correctly or if NVC disregards the mailing. At this time, this shortcut is only for I-864 RFE's, unless and until someone compares it with the DS-230 RFE papers. Corrections WELCOME and encouraged!

The I-864 RFE coversheet

If for some reason when NVC reviews the Affidavit of Support, they decide you need to make a correction to the Form or provide additional information, NVC will send you what they call a checklist to make the changes and/or provide the additional information and return it to them for re-review. As soon as this happens, the IVR will indicate this, and you should check with the operator to determine if it is just the DS-230 missing (which happens often when using James' shortcuts and is harmless) or if it is a real RFE for the I-864. The operator will be able to tell you exactly what was wrong and what they want you to do. In some cases, you may not be sure what was wrong or how to fix the problem, and if so, do not use this shortcut and instead wait to receive the actual notice from NVC describing in detail what needs to be done. However, if you're sure you know what NVC needs you to do, and you've double-checked this completely with the operator, you can use this shortcut instead to resubmit the I-864 and/or I-864A or supply additional supporting documentation before actually receiving the notice from NVC.

First, you will need the I-864 RFE coversheet as a MS-Word file, which is attached to this post. Note, we do not yet know if this cover sheet can also be used for DS-230 RFE's, but hopefully someone will be able to confirm that here shortly. The coversheet file has two pages, both of which must be returned to NVC.

Page 1: Change the BGT1234567890 in the table at the bottom to your case number, use your I-130 "Received Date" for the Priority Date, and replace the names and addresses as appropriate with ALL CAPS. Remember to use the Agent's name & address at the very top, the petitioner name for the DEAR clause, and the Beneficiary's name at the bottom. Change CR1 to IR1 if appropriate. Then go to View | Header & Footer on the menu, click on FOOTER, and replace the date with the date NVC issued the RFE and also replace the case number there too (remember to leave A2D in front of the date in the footer's text).

Finally, you need to generate the barcode at the top of Page 1 for your case number by using http://www.idautomation.com/java/linearservlet.html. To generate the barcode and put it in at the top of page 1 of the sample coversheet, type in the case number under "Data to encode." Under "Barcode symbology," select CODE 39. Select "No" for the "Add check digit," "Add check digit to text," and "Show text below barcode" options. Change the "X dimension" (bar width) to 0.07 and the "Barcode bar height" to 0.7. Click on "Create Barcode."

In the resulting window, right click on the barcode and click on Copy. Paste the image into a graphics editing program such as IrfanView (either by selecting Paste under the Edit menu or hitting Ctrl + V on the keyboard) and crop out the gray text "Powered by IDAutomation.com (i.e., draw a box around the barcode only and, e.g., in IrfanView, select Crop selection under the Edit menu). Copy the image from the graphics program either by selecting Copy under the Edit Menu or by hitting Ctrl+C on the keyboard. Then go to the MS Word copy of the I-864 RFE coversheet and left click on the old barcode that's already at the top, to the left of the words "CHECKLIST." Hit the Delete key. Then click on Paste under the Edit menu (or hit Ctrl + V on the keyboard). The barcode may be underlined -- left click on it again and then de-select the "U" underline button in the MS Word Toolbar. You then need to further adjust the size of the barcode by double-clicking on it. Select the "Size" tab in the box that pops up. De-select "Lock Aspect ratio" if it is selected and change the height to 0.26" and the width to 2.13". Click on OK.

Page 2: Now, go to page 2. Enter the case number, beneficiary's name, and change the visa category if necessary. To generate the barcode to put onto page 2, go back to http://www.idautomation.com/java/linearservlet.html. Type in the case number under "Data to encode." Under "Barcode symbology," select CODE 39. Select "No" for the "Add check digit," "Add check digit to text," and "Show text below barcode" options. Change the "X dimension" (bar width) to 0.05 and the "Barcode bar height" to 0.6.

Then go to the MS Word copy of the I-864 RFE coversheet, select the old barcode that's already there and hit the Delete key. Then click on Paste under the Edit menu (or hit Ctrl + V on the keyboard). You need to further adjust the size of the barcode by right-clicking on it and clicking on "Format Picture," clicking on the "Size" tab, de-selecting "Lock aspect ratio," leave the height alone but change the width to 2.5" and click on "OK."

As always, remember to write your case number on the top right of any forms or documents you send to NVC. Mail both the RFE coversheet and barcode page to NVC at the address shown on the barcode sheet, with the corrected form(s) and/or any additional documents that NVC requested.

DISCLAIMER: None of this is legal advice, and you may only use this shortcut at your own sole risk.

Everything you say is so true Megan. :luv:

I know that everyone here at VJ can share the pain with me that a little delay on the case makes you really feel so frustrated and sometimes it felt like you just hit a brick wall without really noticing that it was there. :( But I am still hopeful and patient that it will come soon, after all, this is the last phase with NVC.

Have a nice day to all of you!

PS. @ Chris Parker: Nice job! That will really be nice that the RFE sheet for the I-864 will be added to James' Shortcut.

Hi green,

If you read the letter, page 1, paragraph 3, it asks you to include that as well.

which is a good thing but then what do i do with the checklist? last time i talked to the operater told me that things were under rewiew and that i was missing ds230... so i sent it in with the checklist again! is things going to cause any problem?
