translation of documents

just figured I`ll let VJ know about two things concerning the document translation, in our case the beneficiary country (mine) is Croatia

I found out two things this last week:

1. Zagreb Embassy informed me that they do not actually require certified, or any, translation of birth/ police certificates- but will take the croatian versions of the same

but more importantly:

2. since I do need certified translations for the AOS, the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed me that in order for the translations (even when done by certified translator) of my birth/ police certificates to be internationaly recognized i.e. in US, I need to get an international validation of the croatian version of the document; before getting them translated

this was completely new to me, and I am sure Croatia isn`t the only country that deals with docs like this so maybe you should check just in case

good luck everyone :)

You are missinformed - I like millions of others have used translators both from the native country and here - they are cheaper in the native country. No authentication other than they know both languages is required. I used a translation done by a notary in my fiance's home city - he charged about $5 for it. No International Validation is required for Anything. Sorry to burst your bubble but you have incorrect information. good Luck all the same.

*shrug*

just sharing what I learned...getting the international validation is not that costly, and since I got the confirmation for it from both the Embassy and the Foreign Affairs Ministry, I will go ahead and do it just to be on the safe side.....

no bursting bubbles here

besides, this isn`t related to whether the translation of the document will be acceptable, but whether the document itself will be valid- two different categories
