How important is a signed and dated cover letter for the I-29f. My husband sent me a package with all the requirements needed for this and all I needed to do was sign my forms. He forgot the cover letter though and it would be another two weeks to wait for him to send that to me. Just want to know if the cover letter is completely necessary that I should wait for one or if I can send the package otherwise. Thanks.

You could write the coverletter yourself. Just list the contents of the packet in order. Do not type your name (or his) and sign like a standard letter- you don't want them to think your filled the form yourself or forged his signature.

Just to be sure, you do mean the coverletter not the letter of intent. Right?

Hope this helps.

I guess that question can best be answered by asking youself if you'd rather have your package put aside in a pile of applications that DON'T have a cover letter and has a greater chance of being misplaced or mixed up with other packages............or if you'd rather take the time to write a one-page cover letter outlining the items in your package which makes it easier / faster for USCIS to process? Also, I don't understand why it takes two weeks to get you a cover letter with today's technology. Write the cover letter (which takes maybe 20 minutes?) and then ask your husband to scan it and email it to you (which takes a few minutes). Save yourself the time/cost of snail mail. Good luck.

You are the USC filing the petition, right? Just write and sign the cover letter and file the petition. I don't understand the problem.

No, my husand is the one petitioning for me so I can't just write the letter and sign it. Also, I thought about having him write and sign one, scan it and email it to me but then I wasn't sure if that mattered since it wouldn't be an original. I guess I'll just mail all of our stuff back to him or have him mail me the letter. Thanks for your help guys :)

You are making this process much more difficult than it needs to be... take a deep breath, all will be OK....

First.. The requirements of the filing are stipulated in the instructions to the form and a cover letter is not listed and therefore is NOT required.

Secondly, the only original documents required to be submitted in the filing is the petition itself and the g-325a's (due to the need for a signature). All other documents copies are acceptable.

Based on the above I think you have a road map to solve your dilema

YMMV

If he is filing the petition then he can just write the cover letter and send it with the petition. You can receive your copy anytime. The US Citizen files the petition, not the beneficiary. What are we missing here? Why are you worried about what is in your hands before the petition is filed? All your hus band needs from you is the information to fill out the petition and a signed G325a from you. He has a certified copy of the marriage certificate, right?

The petitioner signs the cover letter.

I understand what you're saying Pushbrk. The thing is my husband sent me the I-29f package here to Canada. I was going to double check everything for us, and add my G325a forms and then mail it to CSC. He forgot the cover letter though, which I know he is the one who is supposed to sign it. That's why I was asking how important it was, because I was mailing everything, but that's missing. Thanks for your help :)
