Hello everyone,

My wife (who is Japanese) and I got married in Japan, then translated the marriage certificate and had it certified at the US consulate in Osaka. We sent a copy of that with the I-130 form, but just got a Request for Additional Evidence, which says that

"The marriage certificate submitted does not contain the seal of the issuing office, date of registration and signature of registrar."

Does anyone have any idea what their problem is? Should we send my wife's family registry too? I don't understand how they can reject an official Japanese marriage certificate.

Confusedly,

Nick

Hey Nick,

The only thing I had to have translated from Japanese was my wife's divorce papers. I don't see here where you also sent a copy of the original. I sent a certified copy of both. They may not be able to read it BUT ... ...

Hope this helps!

Did you submit a family register(koseki tohon)when your translated document certified at the Consulate office? Marriage Certificate must be in three pages. First page, the Certificate of Translation(with Consulate seal).Second page, Translation of Certificate of Acceptance of Report of Marriage. Third page, Acceptance of Report of Marriage in Japanese(Kon-in Todoke Juri Shomeisho with seal from head of municipal or ward office). Hope this helps.

Goodluck,
