so far so good today, I'm even in a fairly decent mood considering I went to bed after 1am and got up at 630.

I'm looking forward to finnishing the quraan this Ramadan. I wasn't able to finnish it last year so I'm going to give it my best shot this year. I'm not doing to bad on the hunger still. Mainly just thirsty but I just remember how bad I felt the other day when I wasn't able to fast. Now I'm thankful I'm able to keep going without giving in! go me!!!

I think 2nite we're going to have buffalo chicken and some sort of soup and salad. Then some veggies and fruits ... then on to the trail mix as we watch another movie. Last night was "First Knight" with Richard Geere and Sean Connery (sorry if I misspelled their names).... I think that is another thing I look forward to this holiday. It is the time we watch movies and smoke argeelah together whilst munching on mixes of nuts and seeds and drinking soda. It is just a different feel to it in Ramadan. :hehe: yep, I guess I am having a good day today.....

I'm sorry I just don't see how this is a good thing? If you are sleeping all day and up all night, what is the point of fasting? Fasting is about seeing the temptations around you and staying strong and holding your fast. If you are going to sleep all day, and eat all night, IMO that is not fasting.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

Sure but it's a lot more tolerable to sleep a good portion of the day. Since I'm not one of those who has the luxury of doing that I'm feeling all of the effects and *blessings* of fasting.

Ok but is that what fasting is about? I mean if you wake up at 10am everyday, and you continue to do so during Ramadan, than that is ok IMO. But if you are just sleeping in all day until its time to eat, than I don't believe that is fasting at all.

I don't believe it's technically fasting either. It's the easy way out IMO. However, many ppl in MENA do just that. Stay up until Fajr then sleep most of the day. Notice how most businesses practically shut down over there during Ramadan?

Yeah I noticed when I was in Jordan, we were there during Ramadan. I agree with you, I don't believe its fasting at all and many people in MENA do just that.

I remember it was damn near impossible to do anything or go anywhere during the day. It totally sucked.

yep...lots of stuff is shut down...it makes things hard unless u are a night owl....Geo's hours are 2-5pm and 930pm-2am this month.....

i totally think its bogus to say they are fasting when everyone is sleeping the fast's....should not count. to fast u need to put hard work and effort into what u are doing. but to each their own. i cant judge.

Well, this is the first Ramadan I have experienced, so I didn't have anything to look forward to, really. But, I am enjoying the way the streets in Cairo seem to have calmed down. We sat out on the balcony and watched the evening prayers yesterday, and I enjoyed it. The people were overflowing from the masjid onto the sidewalk. Also, the traffic is non-existent in the evenings, and there are different foods available during this time (especially sweets).

So far, we have tried several new sweets this month; we made ataif, konaafa, and om 3aly - all of them we made here at home. They were delicious. I guess moody was right about desserts and sweets being eaten more during Ramadan.
