hello to all,

We are going for IR-1/CR-1 visa.

Here is the situation:

We got married by a priest(Hindu-since we are both hindu) in Toronto in Nov 2006. But we didn't have a usual ceremony since we were planing to go to India since his grandma and all of my dad's family are in India and have a hindu-style with ritual wedding ceremony there. In Toronto, we only had our family and a priest and then got the marriage certificate from Toronto.

then we went to India and had medium size wedding there with rituals in Jan 2007..

now my delimma is that ..when we present the Interview Officer with the wedding pics, how do we explain the situation that we have plus we don't have any invitation as well because it was only our families that were presented at ceremony

Note : my grandma wasn't feeling well so we didn't invite too many people and had only families and close friends present

any help i appreciate it.

Wedding pics are wedding pics, they are as good as any other pics to be used as evidence. It does not matter how it was celebrated, as long as its a ceremony that unites or solemnizes your union as one (as husband and wife).

I agree with the others. I talked to an immigration advocate for the american jewish family alliance, and although they're name is such, they help everyone with immigration and are a very pro immigrant organization. I am not jewish, but they were an immense help to me, and the advocate, who was a lawyer in Peru before immigrating through a CR1 visa to the U.S., has 10 years of experience with helping with immigration paperwork. She told me that the adjudications officers actually don't place a lot of weight on photographs during the initial application process. I guess they feel that photos can be staged, altered, etc...so they look at other things. The photos would help in the interview process, but just not with the USCIS part of this ordeal.

Don't worry about wedding pics because some time the CO doesn't even ask for them or anything else for that matter. Just show them what you have if he/she asks and explain. We lost ours and had to re-take them a week later, but we don't have any of the pics when we exchanged rings or signed our marriage certificate. Oh well.

Your marriage certificate proves you got married. All other evidence presented with petition or at interview goes to show bona fide ongoing relationship. Pictures with family, whether wedding related or not are good relationship evidence but not needed to prove you got married.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
