Instruction Package for immigrant visa (IV) applicants (packet 3)

9 FAM 42.63 PN5.1-1 discusses the contents of Packet 3, which is what NVC sends after processing the IV fee payment.

Supposedly, packet 3 includes:

Form DS-2001, Notification of Applicant Readiness;

This form varies from consulate to consulate and appears to need to be signed by the visa applicant (or agent?)

However, James' instructions mention nothing about the DS-2001. Does NVC still send this?

Any information would be appreciated...

I don't think anybody going for a CR1/IR1 visa has received such form with their DS-230, but I could be wrong. The DS-2001 is similar to the OF-169 where the beneficiary has to sign and send back to the embassy telling them they have all the extra documentation needed for the interview, documents such as the birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc. I've only seen this with K3 and K1 visas though.

Basically, yes, this is what DS-2001 form is. Maybe it is now included in Packet 4 (the "Appointment Package"), which comes from the embassy?

Here are two versions of the form that I've found at various embassies. Have people ever actually received these and had to return them to get an interview appointment?

The US embassy in Bogotá changed their policy in April but before that all the choice of agent had to do was send a copy of the passport bio data page and the DS-230 Part I. No mention of the DS-2001 at all during the NVC process. I'm wondering if this is a new change the NVC implemented recently.

More likely an old form that was phased out when NVC took over collecting the DS-230.

Especially if no one (especially you) has an interview appointment but has never seen anything like this!

We never received form DS-2001 either in our packet. The closest thing that I see in packet 4 is the NVC's own checklist of documents that they received from us in order to complete our case.
