Had our I-130 appt. today

It went so well and was so easy! Just for others who may be going through this soon, I'll post details.

We got to Toronto around 8am. The hardest part of the whole thing was finding parking. We kept driving around, passing all sorts of parking places. By the time my husband finally pulled into one, we were nearly yelling at each other :blush: We get up to the Consulate around 8:20 or so. There were only a handful of people waiting. We get right in and go through security. They took our son's cat he brought. It is electronic and we forgot about it. Well, they didn't actually take it but told hubby to take it outside and get it away from the building. So, he went across the street and set it on a ledge until we got out. LOL

TMI alert (sorry, but I just HAVE to put this)...They made me drink some of my son's bottle we brought (PUMPED bottle). I guess not the worst thing I've ever done, but just wasn't expecting it :blush: I was carrying our youngest in a wrap on me and they didn't even make me take it off. They were super nice and sent us right through. Oh, they told us for the future, we could bring snacks for the kids as long as they were in resealable container and drinks in sippy cups for the. Just in case any of you are wondering about that.

So, we are ushered to the room for the I-130 appt. It was around 9am. They lady takes all of our original documents and tells us to have a seat. They call us back up there around 9:20, ask a few questions, give us the paper about what will happen next, give us our documents back, and send us on our way. We were done with them by 9:30 (and that was our actual appt. time.)

We the went upstairs to file for the reports of birth abroad for 2 of our kids. We were up there for 50 minutes or so with that.

We were done and back to our van by about 10:40. Super easy, super fast. It was a great experience and everyone was so pleasant and nice.

Thank you to ALL who have helped me with my so many questions! (espially Candy, Len and trailmix...you have all been such a HUGE help!) (I'm sure I'll have more questions to come :whistle: )

IR-1 Visa

8-14-2007 Mailed in husband's I-130 to Consulate in Toronto

8-15-2007 Toronto received I-130

8-27-2007 Toronto called to set up I-130 appointment

8-31-2007 Interview at Consulate Approved

9-25-2007 Received Packet 3 in mail

12-9-2007 Received police record (fingerprint version)

1-18-2008 Sent packet 3 back

2-26-2008 heard back from Montreal via email about our interview date

4-23-2008 Montreal Interview!!! Visa APPROVED!!

5-31-2008 Crossed the border into the US to live! :) (one of the happiest days!!)

Currently residing in NC and loving it!

03/2011 Looking into getting dh US citizenship (and just when I thought we were done with all the paperwork! Ha!

US Citizenship timeline:

3-18-2011 Paperwork/check sent

3-25-2011 Check cashed

3-25-2011 NOA

4-16-2011 Fingerprints

6-15-2011 Interview

7-02-2011 Oath Ceremony We're done!!

Good stuff! So now you wait to hear about an interview in Montreal for the visa itself, yes? Because you were able to do DCF, you already saved yourself MONTHS of time. Woo hoo! :)

2007-04-16: I-485 and I-765 sent to Chicago (My AOS/EAD checklist)

2007-04-17: Received at Chicago

2007-04-23: NOA1 date (both)

2007-05-10: Biometrics appointment (both - Biometrics review)

2007-06-05: AOS interview letter date

2007-06-13: AOS interview letter received in mail

2007-07-03: EAD card production ordered

2007-07-07: EAD card received! (yay!)

2007-08-23: AOS interview (Documents / Interview review)

2007-08-23: Green card production ordered!!!

2007-08-24: Welcome notice mailed!

2007-08-27: Green card production ordered again... ?

2007-08-28: Welcome notice received!

2007-09-01: Green card received!

Done with USCIS until May 23, 2009!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

09-05-05 Permanent Resident of Canada

06-18-07 Mailed in husbands I-130 to US Consulate in Toronto

06-20-07 US Consulate in Toronto recieves I-130 packet via Expresspost packet

07-12-07 Call from Toronto Consulate, advised to call to confirm or make an appointment.

07-13-07 Called and spoke with Toronto Consulate, set appointment for 07-17-07

07-17-07 Interview at Consulate,APPROVED

08-07-07 Packet 3 arrived!!

08-20-07 Mailed DS-230 and Checklist to Montreal

08-21-07 Montreal received DS-230 and Checklist

09-04-07 Packet 4 from Montreal arrives !!

09-06-07 Medical scheduled for 09-19-07

09-19-07 Hubbie has medical, all went well, results to be mailed on 09-21-07

09-25-07 Pick up medical from fed-ex

10-05-07 Interview.........APPROVED !!!!

10-10-07 Recieved passport with Visa inside (all done for a few months)

11-08-07 Hubbie activated visa at Queenston/Lewis POE

12-19-07 Husband finally back home in Illinios, used Sarnia POE

Our Immigration approval took 3months, 2 weeks, and 5 days
