I just got an email from the KTM Embassy giving the new contact numbers:

Warden Message for American Citizens in Nepal

This wardens' message is being issued to inform American Citizens of the new location of the Consular Section, now inside the American Embassy in Kathmandu. The Consular Section has moved to the new Embassy compound in Maharajgunj, near Narayan Gopal Chowk. The Section can be reached by calling the Embassy at its NEW phone number 4007200 during normal business hours. If you happen to be calling from outside the Kathmandu valley, you should add city code "01" and from outside Nepal, add "977 + 1" to the number. For American Citizen's Emergency Services ONLY during evenings, weekends and holidays, you may call 4007266, 4007269 and ask for the Embassy Duty Officer. The Consular Section's email address is consktm@state.gov and fax number is 4007281.

Routine American Citizen Services are rendered from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you need to come to the Consular Section, please bring your passport or a photo ID to facilitate your entry into the Section.

For information about security conditions in Nepal, American citizens are encouraged to refer to the Consular Information Sheet for Nepal and the current Travel Warning for Nepal issued on May 7, 2007 (http://travel.state.gov). American citizens are also encouraged to refer to the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement for additional travel safety and security information. Thanks for the update, Pattu Rani. But what surprises me the most about your post is that you got an email from the Embassy in Ktm!! I had several occasions to deal with them in person, by phone, and by fax. When we tried to DCF in March of 05, I'm pretty sure I tried emailing them when I emailed my Congressfolk, but got no reply ... how in the world did you get an email from them?

Too cool.

M

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

Maya62, I signed up online at the US Embassy where I was staying in India (Chennai) and I used to get Warden messages for my area too. They had people (called "wardens") living in the same area, who helped American citizens get messages relevant to the areas they were staying in, via email. Maybe it is the same in Nepal too.

Is it like that for Nepal too, Pattu Rani? (By the way, LOVE your new pic! You both look so good looking and soooo cute together! (L) )

Hi ELW and Maya,

Yes, when I went to the Embassy to get the affadavit certifying that I was able to marry (I believe it is called the 'Letter of No Contest' or something similar) I registered at the same time. This is the first Warden message I received.. The second was yesterday morning, with very sad news...

Apparently there were 4 bombs set off in central KTM yesterday - according to eKantipur a group calling tiself the 'Terai Army' is taking responsibility. 2 people died and over 13 people were injured. The bombs were set off at bus stops and market areas - thank GOD G and his family are moving tomorrow so were busy painting and getting the new apartment ready. I called G's house as soon as I got the message and talked to my 'sasu' and 'nanda' - everybody is OK. I chatted with G briefly this morning and he is saying King G is behind it because he doesn't want the CA election to happen... it's just so disturbing... :o

I'm glad you like the new pic, Eileen - could you believe I haven't gotten any photos printed yet??? I'm still uploading pics to Photobucket and then will print them - I think it's cheaper than Walgreen's or similar.

Hope you had a nice long weekend!!

Sounds like a scary situation. Sending good prayers and thoughts for your in-laws to remain safe and sound! (F)

I hear ya about photos. I'm just ordering some online now, preparing for the AOS interview in a couple of weeks. I hope it will be easy but we're still trying to find a translator just in case... hubby knows a lot of English but better safe than sorry.

I had a great long weekend, thanks! Buried in paperwork again (for AOS interview)... my fate since last October when I first filed. Wow! I just realized - I can't believe it will soon be a year since first filing :o Get started, girl, so I can begin my mega mantras to get you two reunited ASAP! :D
