Its a black whole that none of us ever know when it will end. Eventually I have heard people make it out and the time always varries. (weeks. months years) I been waiting over a year at USCIS for the same thing as you. "further review" aka 'administrative processing"and all thoes other fancy words they use to beat around the bush. I hope your case gets resolved soon.

You could try one of your elected representatives, maybe he could find out something in more detail. Good luck

DOS 202 663 1225 ( press 1, press 0 ). Call weekly or biweekly to check case status.

I never looked into it too carefully, when VJ people refer to calling for a status update I always thought they were talking about the USCIS (+18003755283) number....... Can anyone with a USCIS case call this DOS number too? Is there a reason why you'd phone one and not the other?

Ive been in AP/AR at USCIS in California since April 2007. Just a quick question: when you say you call DOS;who do you call? The National Visa Center or The foreign embassy.

If you are on AP at USCIS like me it will do you no good to call DOS. Dos is for when you have gotten your NOA2 and your case has been sent to NVC. I called and thats what they told me. Checks at DOS and at USCIS are apperently same but different.....weird huh?

Your congressman won't be able to do a thing to help. The only option you have is once it goes on a really long time you can file a writ of Mandimus (I may be misspelling it) and it forces them to take action on your case. Usually you should be at least a year before you try that.

The whole process does stink. I am all for making the country as safe as possible but A/P is a waste and does nothing good.

That in itself will take 18 months to 2 years to get a response after filing. It is rarely done anymore. We have a member or two here

still waiting on an answer after about 2 years. It is a waste of time.

Let's get one thing straight here.

There are two different procedures being discussed here.

The OP's question is about Administrative Review being conducted at the consulate level after the visa interivew. This process is performed by the Department of State (DOS) and is carried out on most if not all visa beneficiaries from T7 nations, countries in the Middle East or other nations regarded as 'unfriendly' to the US, and consulates in nations where visa fraud is high. Some of these checks are lengthy, especially in nations where technology is less advanced or in nations where many individuals have similar names.

The next poster, dip sticks, is speaking of Administrative Review conducted by USCIS prior to the 129F visa petition being approved - before NOA2 is issued. This review is more rare and usually begins as the result of the petition being selected at random. Service Centers pull a certain percentage of petitions for background check on the beneficiary PRIOR to petition approval as a matter of quality assurance. Most of these clearances are resolved within three months.
