Sworn translation

I am Belgian and I read on the US Ambassy Website in Belgium that they accept documents in the national languages of my country (French, Deutch and German)

Do I need to translate the Birth certificate and the Police certificate anyway because I will have to provide them on a further step (as ajustment of status once married)?

When dealing with the USCIS (either at initial petition stage or further on) all foreign language evidence is required to be translated. Birth certificate could be but the police certificate will not be submitted to the USCIS later on.

If Belgium is similar to Germany (and I believe they are), the answer is no, you should not have to have your police report and/or birth certificate translated (assuming you are only submitting Belgian police reports and/or birth certificate - if submitting any from other countries/languages, you will likely have to have them translated...).

If it were me, and I were you however (and both Karin and I did this, since we were both born in Germany), I would (if possible) obtain an International Birth Certificate (and maybe a back up copy) for use in the US. You probably wont need it for your interview there, but it might come in handy in the US - plus it will be much easier to obtain while you are still in country.

Also, it is not likely you will need a translated (or otherwise) police report once you are here in the US...

A lot also depends on what you're applying for (which you don't specify). If the process will result in a K non-immigrant visa, DO translate your documents, since I think you will need them for the AoS process. If your process is after an immigrant visa and you're dealing exclusively with the consulate (i.e. DCF); then you should be fine with the official languages.

Yes, for your AOS you need a sworn translation of your birth certificate and any other documents you want to provide as proof.

In the EU they tend to give you an international birth certificate, like mine in Dutch, but they sent us an RFe on that and we needed to get a sworn translation here, before we did get approved.
