When I still lived in the UK, I used to bring back twinkies, ho hos and ding dongs to my co-workers every time I went to the USA. I think they just liked the names.....

Very good possibility!

Umm, what are Twinkies? I always hear the name but have no idea what they are!

Things I miss that I can't get here in our small town...

Bovril

Marmite

Oxo cubes

GOOD salt and vinegar crisps

English mature, extra stong farmhouse cheddar

Roquefort :P

Parmesan :P

Good authentic Italian olives :P:P

Capers :P:P:P

I miss my mom's cooking too...all those lovely Mediterranian healthy salads she made me with grilled swordfish...and the smoked salmon... and REAL caviar.... :crying:

Where will you be in CA? I think of the supermarket chains, your best bets are Gelsons and Trader Joes.

Of course, there's this place:

http://www.cheesestorebh.com/home.asp

Not cheap, possibly not local to you, but very nice!

also for an online source of great cheeses.... www.igourmet.com You can do a search just for cheeses, or cheeses from a specific country. They sell OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODLES of cheeses.

Our local grocery store, Schnucks, has a small British section, but they are very good about special ordering items for us (sometimes we have to buy a case, but that is fine!), and they have been much cheaper than ordering online directly. He's been trying to find suitable 'replacements' that are easily available here, and have found some at least (like sandwich spread). I told Chris to just buy some tar to replace the Marmite. :P

David is still trying to figure out why the imported British beers at our local liquor store are less expensive than they were in England!

*sigh* Like a lot of good things, look like they don't have any stores in Utah. Still I guess we get our own places similar to that.

After all, we found Marmite and Aromat in a store called Dan's here.
