Mistake on NSO birth certificate

The date of parent's marriage is wrong on my wife's B.C. It's an obvious mistake, many years difference. A local attorney told her it shouldn't be a problem but I think it will. I'll be there in 2 weeks and she'll be applying for her passport then. I told her she should have her aunt and uncle sign a couple of affidavits , since they were at her parents wedding ( both parents are dead ) verifying the correct date of marriage. If it passes the test ( with affidavits ) with the Philippine state department with her passport application do you think it will be OK when it comes to the US Embassy requirements ?

Mine is not correct either.. My parents got married year 1983 but on my BC, it is 1981. I am not the eldest and was born 1983. I was worried too about it so I brought my parents' marriage contract on the day of my interview but either the filipino interviewer nor the consul did not asked about it. Also a friend whom I've met while doin the K-1 process had a problem with her parents date of marriage on her BC (incorrect date) and both her parents are dead too but to God's goodness, we both passed the interview with no problem with our BCs. I am not just sure with your case since you said it has many years difference. BUT I believe, it should not be a problem.. Good luck.

Julie

You were never a mistake. You were my realization.

My fiancee's date of parents marriage is wrong too.

Philipino law allows for them to correct typo's on the BC..

Glad to hear that people have not had any issues with incorrect dates but she is going to try and get it fixed anyway.

Thanks everybody for the great replies, I think we'll be safe with her birth cert. the way it is now, maybe with a couple of affidavits.

Arrta - NSO corrections under RA 9048. We were able to change my stepdaughters name without a court order but it took four months and my wife still had to pay a middleman "extra" to have 2 copies released. That's why I was surprised when the paperwork to change something as minor as her parents date of marriage was rejected. Her parents marriage cert. didn't help either because her fathers first name listed was completely different ! The less we have to deal with the NSO the better.

The date of my fiancee's parents marriage was incorrect as well (unless her mother was 14 years old when they married  ). We think they lied about the date when my fianee was born (her mom was 16 at the time). This NEVER came up at any time during our K-1 process.

If I were you, I would have her bring the supporting evidence (the affidavits) to the interview but DO NOT show itt unless this question comes up, which I strongly suspect will not happen at all. There is no point in creating an issue unless they bring it up first.

BTW, this never came up when my fiancee got her passport either.

The process is such a pain in the neck and takes such a long time (4-6 months) to have changes made, even under the suppossedly simplified RA 9048 Clerrical Error Correction Act. IMO, its not worth it unless the information that is incorrect is specifically information about the Beneficiary - ie Name, Gender, Brith Date, etc. As you can see from the number of folks here who have had errors, ancilary information (for the the purposes of the US Immigration process) such as parents date of marriage, etc is not really of interest to them.

Wishing Everyone Speed, Success, Happiness and Love,

TinTin and Samby
