an interview experience from a friend of mine..

hello everyone,,

actually, a friend of mine had (his wife actually) visa interview recently. I spoke to him yesterday. A successful interview but few hickups. I just watned to share it..

basically, he has a degree in electronics enginnering(also his job title). but on the G325 he filled out, they wrote software engineer under profession. On his job letter his title was mentioned as electrical engineering. the officer asked why mismatch? (I was surprised to hear this actually, seeing how much detail they look into). Officer asked few more questions regarding that. (his work, degree etc..etc) nothing big...just be prepared at the time of interview if such things are asked. his wife was bit shaken up by this during the interview...to me, this is ridiculous..

There is a big difference being a software engineer as opposed to an electrical engineer so can understand why the officer questioned it.

what if you have a large title for example " Information Instructional Lab Analyst" and you dont have space enough to write on application using adobe acrobat. Can you use abbrivative form like IILA and spread the abbrivation on job refrence letter?

Our experience: My boss said my job title was "Sales Assistant" so that is what I put on the G325. But I was working for a temp agency and when they gave me the employment letter, they wrote that I was an "Office Assistant". During the interview my (then) fiancé was asked what I was doing in USA and he answered I was an Office Assistant. But the Consulate Officer said, "YOU ARE WRONG." And then went on to the next question. It was a frightful moment for my fiancé, but at least the visa was granted without problem.

Wow Elw! That is scary! But didn't your fiance read the letter of employment before he handed it to Embassy?

I had told my guy to tell them both occupation titles if they asked, but I guess due to interview nerves, he only said one. He was ready to tell them the other job title but they didn't give him a chance, they just went onto the next question.

Moral of the story: if different job titles are mentioned anywhere in the paperwork given, be sure to mention them during the interview, if asked!

Yikes! That is a scary story!

Preparing your fiance(e) for the interview is like walking a tightrope. At least it was for us. You want to be sure they know enough to feel comfortable with whatever question is likely to come their way, but you also don't want to overwhelm them and scare the cr@p out of them either. It's a fine line.

I'll track down the list of questions/suggestions I put together for S and post it here soon.
