Most of the bridal showers I've been to have also been held in livingrooms. My mother's side of the family has also taken to holding showers at the annual family "picnic" (a summer reunion at one of the cousin's/aunt's farmhouse/farmland) if the timing is appropriate. They had a shower for me two weekends ago at this year's gathering, it was sweet :) No one had to sit through any gift opening though because the whole family decided on cash gifts to prevent me from having to lug anything extra over the border :D

wow... I've never been to a wedding shower like that AT all.. I'm going to a shower tonite with a bunch of Yale Students and it's in a living room though :) Yale Students probably have showers like this.. yale Grads.. that's probably a different thing all together :)

My bridal shower was at my church, both men and women were there, and it took me lots of time to open our presents too. :blush: But everyone wanted to be there to see my face when Jerry showed up as a surprise! :)

Oh, and my mom, grandmom, etc still use their china on a regular basis. I didn't ask for any myself (yet another thing to ship!), I figure Mom will leave hers to me. :)

She's also having 14, yes FOURTEEN, bridesmaids which 1. is way too many and 2. two of them are the sister's of the guy that is getting married. The two sister's are almost 40 years old and other people in the family are talking about how they are too old to really be included as bridesmaids.

Okay, someone clue me in. Why would women in their 30s be considered "too old" to be included as bridesmaids? The point of having attendants in a wedding is to honor the siblings and closest friends of the people getting married.

By the way, I saw a magazine article that showed weddings with ridiculous numbers of bridesmaids. The most excessive was 38!

Last year I went to a wedding shower that was at the historic trolley building in a park in St Paul, but there were only five friends of the bride in addition to relatives (probably there were a total of 20-25 people there, I'm not sure). Other than that, all the showers I have been to have been in people's homes.

My first shower was in the party room of a nursing home, lol! My mom is a director there, and it was a really cool room. We had finger foods, punch, cookies, cake, and about 40 people...it was really cute & fun.

My second one was at my in-laws' house, but hosted by a family friend...that one also had finger foods, etc...they both were very beautiful and touching.

I had 5 bridesmaids and I thought that was hard to manage!! I couldn't imagine 14!! I couldn't keep everyone happy, no matter how hard I tried.

As for my china...oh boy do I want to use it...but I haven't had the opportunity! To add to it, I just got another pretty china set from my mother-in-law as a random gift! It's more intended for tea parties or luncheons...but I don't know anyone here!! Ahhhhhh!! How am I supposed to have a luncheon, lol??
