...when Len & Bren, highly sophisticated and educated nerds try to book sh!t online. I kid you not, we were freaking out like utter newbies. Finally we manage to get the best deal in hotel + airfare booking directly with the hotel (econolodge downtown) and Westjet - they are having a seat sale that cut our costs big time.

That said, we're booked my friends. Will spend a nice week in MTL.... now let's hope the MTL folks behave and grant Len her visa... or else. ;)

That's great....good luck Len!!!! Just curious does your husband have to be there for your interview? My husband was just wondering today if he has to be there too. If not He would like to be there for support anyway but the flights from Vancouver to Montreal for both of us will be alot. oh well, we will have a long time to save up I am sure. Thanks for the tip regarding the Econolodge.

Enjoy the trip!!

No the USA citizen does not have to attend the interview. Mine didn't.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

The USC "is welcome" but does not have to be there. The tip was for Westjet - check out their website when time approaches for your interview; they are better and cheaper than Scare Canada; though from VAN to MTL I don't know how they compare in price. As for Econolodge, the website is choicehotels dot ca and they give you several options (Len & Bren DEMANDED a smoking room, which we happily got he he). Buying direct was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than buying through expedia or the like.

We got this MTL trip as a belated honeymoon gift from my folks :devil:

I'm glad I'm not that far. I went and used some of my airmiles for gift certificates for Via.....why not? I have to use them up. I'm going to stay at the same hotel as Sapa. I did find a better deal with Expedia then a direct booking. I've been trying to find someone who might want to drive and/or even come with me, but NOPE.

Wish someone would get the same date as me :crying:

2007/07/25: Phone call, interview Aug/Sept. Email, at least 6 months for interview

2007/08/01: Phone call, 5-7 months

2007/08/08: Phone call. INTERVIEW

2007/08/16: Interview letter arrives.

2007/09/03: My baby girl leaves for Trent University

2007/09/12: Interview@8:15 APPROVED

2007/09/19: Visa received in hand

2007/10/08: POE Sarnia/Port Huron

I loved flying WestJet! I used them to fly to Montreal as well. It will be a novel flying experience and if you didn't like flying before, you may very well love it after flying with WestJet - their attitude is so uniquely Canadian VBG!

2007-08-23: Green card production ordered!!!
