NVC scheduling Interview @ Embassy for IR1/CR1 visa

Is there any one on VJ that interview was actually scheduled by the NVC. This process is only for the IR1/CR1 visa applicants. I would like to understand the process. Once your case was completed at the NVC how soon was the automatic system updated to indicate that an interview had been scheduled? Did it list the date of the interview? Was the interview for the next month or was it a couple of months out. Did the NVC rep ever tell you that an interview date was scheduled or did you have to wait until you got a letter in the mail? Any insight that you can provide is greatly appreciated!

For Jamaica the process of the NVC scheduling interviews was just implemented in June. I know there are other countries where the NVC was already scheduling interviews. Per the NVC interview are schedule the 2nd week each month for the next month. My case was completed Jun 25. I did not get a date in July. The NVC is not very helpful. And I can not seem to locate anyone who has been through this process :help:

If your case has been completed by the NVC you need to call them every week to find out if they've scheduled your interview. The automated system will not have this info so you will have to talk to a live person. You can also call the Department of State as they will also have this information.

Here are the numbers:

NVC: (603) 334-0700 - press 1, 5; US State Department: (202) 663-1225 - press 1, 0

Thanks Diane for the suggestion. Based on what is happening with my case I have determined there are two ways of getting your interview scheduled when pursing an IR1/CR1 visa.

1. The NVC completes the case and then mail the package to the Embassy and that embassy contact the SO to schedule the interview--I think that is how it will work for your Embassy

2. The NVC completes case and the NVC actually schedules the appointment and notifies the USC. The package is not mail to the Embassy until after the interview is scheduled.

With the second option more info is required with the DS230 prior to the case being completed. All the additional documents (birth certificate, police certificate, marriage license) that is normally taken to the interview is sent the NVC before the NVC will complete the case.

I have not been able to locate any one on VJ that has gone through the second option. Since my country, Jamaica just started this process in June there is no one on that forum who can really comment on what happen.

The reason for my post to the NVC is to reach other VJs with SOs in other countries that have actually had to go thru the 2nd option. I am pretty sure I will be first VJ with an SO in Jamaica following this process.

So I really need for only those that have an interview date but got the interview scheduled directly by the NVC to reply so I can get some good info on what to expect next. Thanks!

Jenice,

Colombia just changed their policy as of April 1st and we now have to go through option 2. I sent my husband's birth certicate, police certificate, marriage certificate and his passport photocopy along with the DS-230 to the NVC. Since the case has been completed, the NVC will schedule the appointment themselves and then send packet 4 to both, the petitioner and beneficiary. The packet will contain the date of the interview.

The tip other members have given me, who have already gone through this, is to call the NVC quite often until they give you the date of the interview. On this call they can also tell you when packet 4 will be mailed out to you both.

Very good topic to start Jenice. I am curious as to this new process, because when I file at in November, I will be going through this new process. It would be enlightening to know the process and what to expect from the new change. I think this should be pinned in the Yardies thread.

Hey Jenice......I am in the States waiting for my husband to join me.....NVC says that they have received our AOS Fee Bill and the I-864 was generated on 8/28 and being sent out this week.....However, Drew mailed his DS-3032 back to NVC last week, shortly after Hurricane Dean, and they still haven't said they received it yet......I am wondering if I should have him go ahead and prepare to get his police certificate or do we have to wait for some kind of paperwork from NVC...I am thinking that I read somewhere that the police certificate is only valid for so long......Do you know any information on this? Thanks!

Hey Tonya, I'm sure Jenice will respond to you, but I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. Your hubby can go to the Ministry of Security and let them know that he needs a police certificate for immigration purposes. It's best for him to have it ready so that you can send it out as soon as you get the checklist letter. It's good for 1 year.

Good luck

Tonya,

The police certificate was needed upfront by the NVC before my case was completed. I am assuming your fiance is from Jamaica too. The difference is I am filing for a spouse visa(IR1/CR1 visa). From what I have read I don't think you need this police certificate. You should take a look at the regional discussion under Latin America, Mexico & the Caribbean. From here there is a thread title "Yardies at home". About 60-70% of the members on that thread have filed for a K-1 visa. When I first join this site I assume that there were no difference in the process if your fiance/spouse was from the same country. This is not true. There are a lot of difference in what is needed upfront and how the interview is actually scheduled. It changes base on the type of visa being filed for and the country in which the spouse/fiance is from. Understanding this will save you so much time and confusion.

For example...Me or my spouse never received any communication from the Kingston Embassy. The interview letter came from the NVC. There was only on package. Our Interview is Sep 27....24 days away :dance: For the fiance visa from what I have read is scheduled directly by the embassy and you get a pakcage 3 and package. Let me know have any other questions.

I hope so too; that would be really nice  . Jenice and I were in the first batch of NVC interview scheduling. It took almost 2 months from the date her case was completed and approximately a month from my case being completed for us to be scheduled for interviews.

As soon as your hubby can get that form sent again, it would be great. Also, have him fill out the DS-230 and sign a couple of page 2 because it needs his original signature; when I sent my husband's originally, they misplaced it and we had to send it again. It was a hassle waiting for him to send it to me again.

Have him send it with the police certificates. He can get the police certificate in 3 days or 21 days; 3 days costs J$2000 and they will give him 2 copies. You will only need to send 1; keep the other for the interview. You will be in our prayers and I can't wait to hear all about your journey.

Good luck  If you haven't already, come and check out the Yardie thread (as Jenice indicated).

Did they finally get the Choice of Agent form? Keep us posted.

-Tam

Hey Tam.....I just called NVC for the 2nd time today.....I call once in the am and once in the pm......and no luck still yet today.....She told me that once they receive it in the mail, it would take 5-10 days to show in their system.....So who knows.....I just keep hopin and prayin......And sending back all the documents I need to send them as soon as I get them......In the next few days, I am going to send Drew a packet of information including pics, emails, phone records, etc.......Just so he will be prepared for the interview when that time comes.....I am hoping to be able to attend the interview with him but I have to deal with one day at a time....My 18yo son was killed two years in an auto accident and I have court proceedings to attend....but not a definite date on them yet......So hopefully, things will all work out and I will be able to attend and make it a little easier on him......
