Hello,

We live in California, USA. My wife has a family member in Canada and we'd like to send or purchase them a gift card at a popular store in Canada.

Here in the USA, a popular store would be something like Target ( http://www.target.com/gp/homepage.html)

Can anyone suggest a similar kind of store we can purchase (on-line) a gift card to send them?

Canadian Tire Sort of like a walmart

U could use amazon.ca. Have most of the same store in Canada as in USA (no target though)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Walmart is all over Canada as well :) But you'd have to buy the gift card from the CDN site as US gift cards won't work in Canada (i've read the fine print and they say for use in US only). :)

Flames idea of Crappy Tire is a good one :thumbs: I've sent my step father cards from that site and they arrived really fast!

You can also visit some of the Canadian stores websites and they should be able to allow you to buy a gift card there and have it sent to the person's address. I did this once with I think it was a restraunt chain for something. I just paid for it online and they recieved the card in the mail...

You might have a problem, trying to buy a Canadian gift card online.

I have tried to buy American gift cards online and they will NOT accept a credit card from Canada....

I'm not sure how why. I know if I drove an hour over there, they'd take my card with me there.

Some stores will accept it for merchandise online, Walmart WON'T, a couple sporting goods stores won't either

The OTHER chain of stores here, other then Walmart, is H.B.C. Hudson's Bay (www.hbc.com) .....including the Bay, Home Outfitters and Zellers. There's Chapters.ca.....

I think you can buy the bay gift cards online...the bay gc are good because you can use them at 3 different types of department stores. Ladies like the bay.

I would check out individual websites and see what their policy is on using a USA credit card. I've ordered flowers (not FTD), and sent several gift cards using my US credit card with no problem. Is it a list of some stores that you're specifically looking for? Let us know.

You could always send an Amazon.ca gift certificate too (.ca not .com) or Indigo.ca.

LOL, I found it really annoying too when I was trying to send something to the States for a wedding gift.

So I emailed them and their response was to give me the 1-866 number, don't you love email replies that tell you to call someone else :)

Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic gift cards purchased in the US can be redeemed for merchandise in Canada. You buy in US $ and when redeemed the card displays the Canadian $ equivalent.
