Is stunned.. where you been jellybean?

Mostly (trying!) to get things sorted out, ie. find a job, hurry up with moving out of the in-laws' house, and all that fun jazz. Laura sent me a PM a couple of weeks ago and said that I should check in :P I've missed being around!

ps. fun slippers! those look cushy :D

excellent.. great to see you again :) we've missed ya! :)

I got the call centre job, and instead of 9/hr starting pay I'll be getting 10/hr because of my experience and how impressive my interview was. They eagerly assured me there a program in place to fast-track agents interested in management positions, and they reimburse tuition, and offer health/dental/eye insurance.

Most importantly, I felt like they realized how valuable I am and how momentous it was that I got recommendation letters from former managers even though my old company had a no-references policy.

So come Monday the 20th, I will have a full-time job a parking lot away from mah house.

Thanks you two!

Being so close to home is why I settled for the wage; a parking lot crossing commute is priceless when your town has a crappy public transportation system and you don't drive. I could easily get a job that's in the 12-15/hr range, but then I would be in a transportation crisis all the time. Been there, done that, turned the 7 minute drive into a 1hr 45min commute to protect against bus stupidness, blew the $15 taking a cab on a regular basis ... so done with that.

It takes me less than 3 minutes to lock my door, cross my apartment complex, cut across the nextdoor building's parking lot, and walk down the side of my workplace's building and enter the door. I timed it today.

No more frantically checking my watch in the rain, wondering if the bus/taxi is going to come on time. No more having to argue to leave work early to catch the last bus home. No more eating ####### from the sandwich machine/blowing cash on lunches, I can spare 6 minutes out of my lunch to eat at home. I'm willing to take a pay cut for that.

congrats!! But ur soo close now that if they need to call some one in, ur #1 on the list, lol And if u call me at supper time, well........................................

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Good morning everyone.

Well we are here in the house....finally. OMG I was tired last night

So everything is still a mess, but at 11 we have to go over to the apt to meet the carpet cleaning people who are supposed to show up between 11-1. Mike has just gone to the cable company office to grab a remote for the cable box as they neglected to leave one here last night.

The cat seems to be ok, bit ticked that there is no screened in patio - but very happy to see her climbing thing etc from Canada!

Congrats on the new job Galateia!

OMG..... a good laugh about the political landscaping. There are WAY too many McCain/Palin signs in our neighbourhood. So last night my husband noticed that someone had stolen one from our neighbour down the street and put it on our nextdoor neighbour's lawn..... who will have an aneurism when he comes home and sees it. So this morning my husband left for the gym, then called me two minutes later to tell me someone had removed ALL the McCain/Palin signs from the lawns around the neighbourhood..... except for the one next door. I wish I'd been there. I would have convinced them to put them all on our nextdoor neighbour's lawn. Too funny.

(Still not sure if they all came down because Palin was found to have abused her power as Governor. Now, there's a shocker. )

Our neighbour's lawn is covered with signs affiliated with various republicans trying to get elected, many of them good ole Oklahomans in the good ole boy network. I feel like going over and planting a sign with the word "Seriously?" in the middle of them.
