oooooooooooo charles! How lovely! That's a splendid looking coffee. Thank you. (F)

trailmix...I'd forgotten about that until you mentioned it! Yes...pedestrians DON'T have the right of way here it seems. Very funny. It was the first thing that Gene mentioned when he came to Canada. Especially at malls, that people would cut across from the parking lot to the store entrances, and people just automatically stopped. I don't know that I've seen many crosswalks here as well and certainly no lighted ones!

Laura, where did you taste this chocolate? I'm not a big fan of dark chocolate. I've heard about all the wonderful properties of dark chocolate, and I always said... "figures!" I love milk chocolate...and I'm VERY partial to Cadbury's.

Thanks everyone for your congratulations on my 1st wedding anniversary! Mumsie...we had a large piece of our wedding cake frozen, and it's tradition to eat some of it on your first anniversary. My MIL made a lovely wedding cake...it was carrot cake. I thawed some of it on Monday, and it was very very good.

Here's a picture of the cake the day we got married. My MIL did a wonderful job!

Mmmmm. Turkish coffee. My friend used to make that for me. It was deelish.

Carla, that's a beeeeautiful cake!

Trailmix, they don't stop for pedestrians in Toronto, either. Though I am surprised that they don't stop in a small town in Nebraska. Maybe they all moved there from the city? However, you'll be happy to know that they stop for them all the time here in FLA.

When my wife has visited me in Houston, she's been amazed by the fact that the drivers have such little regard for pedestrians. I keep telling her that Houston is very much a "driver's city." Considering the vast amount of area Houston takes up (Toronto could easily fit within it and you'd still have plenty of room left over) and the number of people (it's the fourth largest city in the United States), having a vehicle is mandatory if you want to get anywhere.

Because of this lifestyle, people rarely give much -- if any -- consideration to pedestrians. It's not a dramatization to say almost everyone has a car. Houston might be bearable if it had a passable public transportation system, but it doesn't. Unfortunately, the reason behind this is more of a Catch-22. Metro doesn't bother much with the buses since it knows 99.9% of all people have and use cars, but 99.9% of all people use cars since Metro has such a craptastic bus system. :P

As a side-note, my wife and I visited Austin recently and they have the single greatest public transportation system I have ever seen. For one, they have a service called "The 'Dillo" (most likely short for Armadillo) which travels all over downtown and is FREE. Next, the bus system's NORMAL FARE is only 50 CENTS EACH WAY. A Day Pass (unlimited rides for 24 hours) is only ONE DOLLAR and an Adult Pass (for unlimited rides all month) is just TEN DOLLARS. If you work for the state government or you're a student/employed by the University of Texas, the buses are FREE too.

That is the way to get people to take public transportation. Make it much more affordable and easy to use. Americans aren't going to skip out on using their cars easily; we have something of a "love affair" with them, but if the price is right, we might make a change.

That's good to hear krikit! Calgary is very much a - stop for pedestrians - city, whether in a parking lot or they are walking across the middle of the street in your neighbourhood.

So we stayed up until 2:30 this morning watching tv and talking, I didn't know it was so late as I switched watches last night and it still had Mountain time. Everyone else is still asleep. My Sister and Brother in Law have given up their room to us and they are sleeping in the guest room - everyone else is still asleep!

They have 2 border collies, they are really cute

Carla...Click here for Lorraine's personal website.

This lady is a spokesperson for Xocai and gave a presentation at my chiropractors office.

It's very good, I'm sucking on some right now! I don't like dark chocolate..I am very surprised.

Here is the Xocai website.

I'm loving it!

I'll let you know how I feel after a week of eating it every day.

The problem with milk chocolate is it's full of fat and it's made by heating it, which kills everything in it that we need.

This chocolate is the worlds number 1 antioxidant, 5 times the amount of eating blueberries.

Many dark chocolates we see on the shelf that says 70% cocoa is still not the right type. It's made incorrectly and still have sugar added to it.

Anyway...you can get it in the states, that's where the supplier is.

Congrats on your anniversary!!! :)

Beautiful cake :star:

I think we should start a Bash your Ex thread. I was just reading one thread in MENA and it was hilarious - I really like some of the MENA folks. They said that the Canada forum is the only place where we complain about our American spouses . I am not Canadian, but you all should be ashamed of your complaining selves.... :bonk:

Congrats late on your 1st wedding anniversary

And thanks for reminding me to bring back our cake piece from my MIL next week-end when we go so we can have it in May  She froze the top part of our cake and kept it because we didn't have the room to bring it back then...
