Help with border control?

Hi everyone.

Ok i'm from London, UK, my girlfriend is from Buffalo, NY. Our plan is for me to go over there soon on the visa waiver program, file for a fiance visa (as soon as i get there), stay for slightly less than the 90 days allowed, and come back and wait for the rest of the process. I gather that at the border i'm going to be questioned about my stay and my intentions? What kind of information can i give to prove that i will be returning to the UK? I recently finished my course at university, so dont have a job. Living with parents so dont have my own house. But, my graduation date is mid december, could this count as intention to return? Is there anything else i could use? And if not, is it then likely that they'd turn me round? =(

Also, i feel i have enough money to support myself the whole time i'm there, will i need to provide bank statements? How much would they consider enough for a visit of 90 days?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Ryan

"Visiting friends"

Letter from an employer is good evidence that you will return home after your stay.

People entering on VWP from UK usualy dont have problems at the POE.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Thanks, i'm probably just getting paranoid about all of this, but is honesty not the best policy in these situations. e.g. letting them know i'm visiting my gf, but also understand the rules and consequences of breaking them?

I'm sorry? I don't understand what you mean

ry, I flew from London to the US (I'm not English, so was travelling on my Australian passport, but we're also on the visa waiver program so it amounts to about the same thing) late last year to visit my boyfriend... said so quite openly; was asked my intentions; truthfully said I had no intention of marrying him, was asked if I had my flight back arranged, showed the ticket, and was through... the guy was VERY friendly, courteous and pleasant, and it wasn't a problem :)

exactly what you say is up to you, but I don't think you should be worried... specially as you sound quite sane and sensible ;)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Hey Ryan. I'm from Buffalo and my fiance is a Brit too! As for coming on the VWP, it shouldn't be an issue so long as you haven't had numerous visits to the US. Also, its OK to say "visiting my GF". Just be honest and you should be OK. Good luck!

it may; I don't know... you're right; my visit was much shorter (just shy of two weeks, in fact)

I still think if you show proof of ties to London you won't have a problem... but in the end of course it's impossible to guarantee anything

Why do you think numerous trips would be a problem?

I live in Canada and go to the states every month or two for anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks..

I've been doing this for the past 2 years.. meaning I average around 9 trips a year..

(never had a problem... carry pay stubs, letter from school etc..)

Because it HAS been a problem for my fiance! They told him he visits too often and that the last time he was here it would be the last time he could enter the US without a Visa. He had proof of residency in the UK, but their argument was that he simply spends too much time here.

As i said i just finished school, will be graduationg in December. Will a university headed letter showing the date of graduation be of any help do you think?

couldn't hurt..

perhaps include that you already have plans (w/ proof) to be there for graduation...

editted to add:

like tickets purchased for family members to come to the ceremony...

work schedule or letter from parents' employer saying they have requested the day off..

Was he going for really long trips? I've only heard them make of comments like that when you end up spending like over half to three-quarters of the year in the states (once you add up all the visits)..

anyway, it's always better to err on the side of caution and be armed with all your documents you can muster..
