Golddigger???? What a stupid comment. Because everyone knows that canada is a third world country with no womens rights and women in canada dont know how to make their own $. we sit and wait for american men to save us lol what a bunch of clowns

Seriously... he was like, "uh, she makes more than I do." I was pretty insulted at first when he told me and now it's just a running joke with us. I think his brother choked when I told him how much I used to pay in rent in Toronto. :P

But seriously, I wonder how many friends and coworkers of USCs think something like that when they find out their SO is from another country?

Lol... well I did have someone drop a comment to me once that "I got just what I wanted, my free ticket into the US...congratulations." <---(My husbands ex was feeling a little bitter.) I think she must have thought Canada was a third world country and that we are all tripping over each other to get out of our situations here lol.

Amusing and frustrating at the same time too. I've had people ask me if I've learned to speak Canadian...and does my fiancé/now husband speak English. Oh I've had the "Do they have McDonalds in Canada" question too. OMG, I even had one person ask me if they really build igloos up there in Canada...ROFLMAO!

I love how people think Canada is some far away magic snow land when it is like 1/3 of Canadians live 100 kms or less of the US border. Now that it is summer, people are CONSTANTLY saying to me.."wow this must be hot for you...." And no matter how many times I say, "Actually, frequently in the summer it gets into the 90s and sometimes even breaks 100" they don't seem to believe me! And then, they start complaining about how hot it is for THEM! haha and I am like..."wow you're hot? I don't know what you are talking about....feels pretty nice to me!"

People are completely clueless. My father in law, who is a PhD holder, did not know that ottawa was the capitol of CAnada even though I LIVED THERE the entire time I dated his son. It's not toronto? While that is a pretty common mistake, he IS a doctor! haha

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

While that is a pretty common mistake, he IS a doctor! haha

Because they think toronto is the center of the canadian universe. It is not just americans...its everyone. The second people find out i am canadian they ask me if i am from one for 2 places. Toronto and Montreal. Unless they watch hockey, they have never heard of edmonton.

I hope i have a canadian neighbour when i move...please god please god.

It's interesting how there can be such common misconceptions from people in a country so close to ours.

On the flip side I lived in New Zealand for a while and pretty much everyone I met had heard of or knew of Calgary - in fact when I moved back here 2 people I knew in NZ visited Calgary. The older ones remembered serving with Canadians in WWII and had only nice things to say.
