Hi!! I sent for my tax transcripts last friday and got them on saturday (Faster than I thought) I have the transripts for 2003-2005. However since I came back to the US in February and didn't get a full time job until March, I only have 16,032 showing for the year. However i make 26k right now. Does this mean that I will need a co-sponsor? I have absolutely no one that can co-sponsor. Or, can I simply right a letter explaining why I don't show that much income?

maybe an employment letter showing length of work and current income by your boss will do.

better if u'r contracted, then it's fairly sure income.

At our interview they only took ONE year of tax returns - so I would get a co sponsor to be safe..or use assets to make up the rest of what you need?

Not sure, but if I were you I'd rather be safe than sorry - they don't play around with financial support issues.

Just saw that your husband is from Iran - IMO they will put your case under even more scrutiny...meaning I wouldn't feel good about just one return that is not enough to meet the requirement.

I agree with karo112. Look for a co-sponsor just in case the consular officer is of the picky kind. Theoretically, it should be enough if you make enough money now, but then you don't really meet the requirement during the last year, which is the important one.

If you absolutely don't know any possible co-sponsor, just see if the CO accepts your income and if not, try again next year when you'll definitely meet the requirement.

Well, don't they take into account that I didn't work a full year? I have a letter from my employer with length of time and wages. I work for the state of AZ. I am only about $500 off. I am going to send an email to the embassy to explain and see what they say. A co-sponsor is not an option since I have no family. I can include the last 3 years without a problem, to show that that is the only year that I didn't make the 16,500. I will keep you posted.

Well, I just double checked my return and it actually says $16,502 gross earnings LOL I made it by $2. However, I do see where they didn't put in 2 small W2's either!!!! So, that will only bump up my earnings to about 19k. I am calling HandR block today and see why they were not included. Looks like they will need to amend my return!!! UGH
