Work authorization at some port of entries

Hello everyone,

I've read here under the K1 visa chart, that some port of entries will stamp your passport with a termporary work permit if you ask them.

It mentioned JFK and NY airports. Does anyone know if these are the only POE that will issue this, or are there any others. I fiance would be coming from Central America so most likely the POE would be Miami or Houston. Has anyone entered any of these and received this work permit.

Would appreciate any insights. Thank you,

Kitkat

i have heard that jfk is the only one that issues the stamp...one option is simply to take a detour and make a connection in nyc...just make sure than jfk is the first airport that you enter on us soil...it might be worth the inconvenience (is that spelled correctly?)

Some airports outside the US, particularly in Canada and Ireland, do preflight immigration. But really I don't think its worth it, unless you either have a job lined up, or you have skills in a profession that will allow you to get a job right away.

I agree, it's not worth it unless you have something lined up. My husband went out of his way to go through JFK POE to get the stamp, but most places won't hire until "permanent" work papers.

So, now we wait for EAD.

yea but jfk is so close to newark, that they might figure that people from new jersey could (almost) just as easily fly into jfk

Some airlines go to one, but not the other. So it may not be that easy to do.

There is no such thing called "Permanent" work-permit. What you want is an EAD Card, Employment Authorization Document, valids for 1 year from the date-issued. Do a search on EAD. You can file for EAD when you strart your AOS. Usually, you must apply for AOS before you can for EAD.

BTW, that stamp out of JFK-POE is overrated, I don't remember exactly how long the stamp is valid for, but you can't start working until you have your SSN, that takes a few weeks, then by the time you just finish your training on the new job, it expires already, so if you hope to start working right away legally, and plan to flight in NY, don't bother? Get the cheapest ticket and faster route to get here first. You are about to entering the longest wait of your life with USCIS :)

Good luck
