I am sitting here in my new lonely apartment dying for Rich to get here and we've only been apart for 5 weeks today! He gets here a week from today and that still seems so far away. Anyway, everytime I start to feel sorry for myself I think of all you people on VJ that have been apart from their fiance's for months and months! As cheesy as this sounds, I really do think you guys rock and are really tough.

I don't know how you do it, but I know if I had to I would wait as long as it takes to get Rich here. I just wanted to say I admire those of you that are enduring and have endured a REAL long distance relationship.(I was in England for the last year with him) I just needed to write this to shut my whiny ### up!

your not whining!! in my book, any time apart is HARD....no matter how short or long it is. if you love someone....being apart one day is just as hard 5 weeks or 4 months....or even years.....so no shame in missing him...its just normal. but i am happy for you that he will be there with you soon!!

I completely understand, Jenny. I've been lucky enough to have had Bruce with me the whole time I've known him, and sometimes I feel really guilty when I think of the hardships the others on this board have faced. Even being away from him for 12 days recently was tough, as we haven't been apart longer than 17 days, ever -- but then I see people who are parted for well over a year and I think...STFU, self!

You are most certainly normal -- as chelsea says below, you're in love so any time apart seems unbearable! Best wishes on your reunion!

Hmm... I certainly feel suitable quietened and guilty as well. I am so lucky that my husband has always been with me bar business trips. Even now, he is so desperate to get to the States, but doesn't want to leave me on my own. I am really lucky and hugely admire all those who are apart for so long.

I'd still really like my interview date though, please...... :ranting:

Jenny, I don't think you're whining....I think being apart after being together for an extended period of time has other challenges to overcome....you miss your routine, you miss the familiarity of the 'normal'. The first few months becoming acclimated to a routine apart from each other is the worst!

It was such an adjustment for me when I moved back here without him...I cried myself to sleep pretty much every night. For ages, even when I went food shopping, I'd be so sad cos I'd be so upset remembering how we used to do our weekly shop together.

Now that we've been apart for yonks, for me it's a little easier...my routine is set and I'm 'used to' him not being here.

Congrats on the upcoming reunion!

Nope, you are definitely not whining

As someone else said, even 5 minutes is long enough when you really want to be with someone :(

This is the longest me and my SO have ever been apart... It is HORRIBLE, but we both know that it will all be worth it in the end. In fact, I have told him to make the most of enjoying space in his bed, cos I know for a fact after about 6 months of me sleeping in it full time, he will be wishing me back to England  (I make like a star fish and it drives him crazy  )

We are luckier than some others though, we usually go 3 months without seeing eachother and then I go over for either 2 weeks or 3 months, it all depends on work. I won't be going over now though untilk I get my visa... Which by the looks of things will be another 3 months :( There are some people who have gone for ALOT longer than that :(

You will be surprised though how quickly time does go when you are apart.. Although it feels like it's dragging, I cannot believe how quickly the past 2 years have gone by!!

You will make it though!

Good luck! And I hope you have a fabulous reunion :D

Thanks for all the reassurances that I'm not a whiner, but I sure feel like it sometimes. I agree that although we've been apart for 5 weeks I can't believe that he will be here on Tuesday.

I think the hardest thing for me is coming home to virtually no social life. Things have changed a lot in the last year. A few of my good friends moved out of state, others are now in serious relationships and are busy with that (understandable:) and people are just wrapped up in their own lives and aren't interested in going out for drinks or just hangin out. I understand, because when Rich gets here I will be wrapped up in him too.

Plus, I need a job and wasn't expecting this job search to be so challenging. I guess I have never had to search for a job when I wasn't already working, so it wasn't as urgent. At least I came back from England with enough money for a few months rent, because I don't think I could have lived with my parents for too long, bless em.

It is hard to try and explain the visa process to others that aren't going through it. "NOA what??" I guess that's why VJ is a blessing.

My hubby and I were apart for 6 months and it wasn't easy, there's no denying that. I did mope a bit - I'll admit that - but then I used some of that time to do things I wouldn't be for a long time. Seeing the sites of London (where I lived), going to museums etc etc

Rather than let your life waste away feeling miserable it really can help if you fill your days with things you can do on your own. This might not be very good advice to you (you're the USC right?), but it might be something for your fiance to think about. Although he hasn't got long now I see!
