I864 affadavit of support

Hey everyone,

Just had a few questions if anyone knows...

1.does the consulate accept printed, faxed or scanned Tax returns??

2. With I-864 Affadavit of support did you only send the Tax returns or the W2 as well???

I guess it depends on the embassy, in Colombia you can submit copies.

I sent copies of both tax returns and W2s with the I-864 because the IRS took forever to send me the transcripts. I would never send original tax documentation.

The W2 proves the numbers on the 1040. Anyone can just download a 1040 from IRS and make up a favorable looking one, the W2 and/or 1099 proves the numbers are real.

You can also submit an IRS transcript in place of the returns and W2/1099s

A tax return is incomplete without documentation of income. Copies are fine but I recommend copies of transcripts instead of returns. No need for W2's with a trancscript.

The only 'original' of your tax return was the one you filed with the IRS.

And if you file electronically like I did for the past 7 years, good luck to get a virtual original ITR. If you need one, order the Tax Transcript.
