Hello and greetings to all!...another ds-230 question: my hubby (ex-petitionner, USC ( i became the petitionner once at the nvc)) received a mail from NVC stating that we'll receive the ds-230 form in 2-4 weeks; today the automated nvc system said they are waiting for the "petitioner's biographic information". Which, again we never received. What is to understand? did they forget to mail the info (i imagine is to how download the form) or does it take a long time to arrive?

Oh, and in the same time, can i fill the form by hand which i prefer (my printer is not so perfect) or is it necessary to do it online? Thanks a million!!!

You can download DS 230 from Dept of State website (you can find the link from NVC forum) and from this website from "Forms" section. Yes, you can fill it out by hand. The DS 230 part I must be signed by the visa applicant, part II must not be signed now (the consular officer will ask the visa applicant to sign it during the interview). You can go to a library, fill it out there, and print it out. The library may charge you a very minimal amount for using their printer. Typing would be easier than hand writing. But you can handwrite your DS 230.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

You never become the petitioner. Your husband is the petitioner and you are the beneficiary and the applicant. Bear that in mind when you fill out any forms. The foreigner is never referred to as the petitioner. Alwasy beneficiary and/or applicant.

You "benefit" from the petition by having the right to "apply" for a visa.

I'm also stuck at the DS-230 part of the NVC process. The automated system keeps saying they are missing info, which is the actual DS-230 packet we should send them, yet they haven't said if they mailed out the instructions for it or not.

Your husband can call the NVC to find out what date they mailed out the instructions, that should give you a rough idea of when to get it.

My english is not good, so bear it :)....Of what i understood, bassically the status of the beneficiary changes at the NVC, as for the war of terms, or clarification of terms, ds-230 is an immigration application, therefore i become an applicant...if i said petitionner...maybe it's not the right term, but, the initial petitionner can not petition for it, because he is already a USC... I had that in mind from an ancient info clearly explained by Aussiewhench! Have a nice day!

Thank you very much Simple Male and Mononke28; My hubby tried to contact them, but the automated system states they are too busy. I have now copies downloaded of ds-230. Yesterday he e-mailed them to inquire about this contradiction/clarification...So we'll see...I'll keep you informed...

Mononke...what missing info they might need, i wonder....

I also checked what they ask specifically for Canada...as of additional info...there is a list...They also state we have to wait NVC's approval or something like that before sending the ds-230....another question in suspens lol...

Oh, and where do you guys certify copies of BC?....i have this info somewhere in my papers...but can not find it...

Please check James' shortcuts here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...=117&st=135 , they explain the whole DS-230 process.

You can also go here http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html to see what extra documents you might need to send along with the DS-230 form.

The information the NVC is missing is probably the DS-230. Your husband needs to call the NVC to find out if it has been mailed out. If it has, then it takes about 2 weeks to be delivered. You can tell your husband to call very early in the morning or late at night to see if he can get through and talk to a customer service rep. It may take a few tries.

Thanks for the prompt reply Diana and the links. In the James shortcuts, it's not said how to know when the ds-230 has been generated and, it's basically my initial inquiry. When NVC wrote us with the I-864, etc, they mentionned I'll receive in 2 to 4 weeks a package (assuming it's the ds-230 form), which i didn't, but their automated line said they are waiting for me to send it to them. How can I send something i didn't receive.

Also, back to the James shortcuts, it's said, that at NVC there are 2 types of status: depending if NVC is dominant or the consulate in regards to the additional documents (BC, etc)...So, bassically, i still have to wait for NVC to answer, as i mentionned, my hubby send them an e-mail to know if i have to wait for them to sent the form, or if it's ok to send the downloaded ds-230, without them sending it to me. And i read somewhere that NVC clearly states we have to wait for their info before sending anything....so we'll see...

Overall, some stuff has to be updated with the James shortcuts, because new info is piling on the old one, for one thing, and second, we have to keep in mind that we have a personal correspondance now with NVC and do what they ask us, as each case is different from another.

I'll take all next week to figure out all these little details ...the best way to improve my english...i'm blessed!!!

I see you send your famous ds-230, so no more headache for you...that's great!!!

Well, i don't like to talk to myself so much on here, but here was the trick: talked to NVC finally, they didn't say they send already the ds-230, and few hours later hubby got it in the mail and sent it to me. So bassically, that statement meant from the facts, they were anticipating all this; i felt like it was pushy on us, because we didn't receive it to sent it of course. Now i have the ds-230 in my hands. fhew!

Just as an aside, I noted in your earlier post that you were asking about certified copies of birth certificates - I assume you ended up ordering one from a registry office?

So happy you now have the DS-230 form! I am told mine will be sent next week. I hope I am not posting here in a month wondering where it is. Good luck. You're getting close to the finish line!

Thank you very much! and same to you...we are at the near end!...at least with the paperwork, after this one! call them in 1 week, if you didn't receive it yet. YOu had the chance to be told when they sent it, not us..so that's better for you!...We agonized for nearly 3 weeks to figure out what that msg meant. I have to add that that nvc lady said to hubby that it means they received the IV fee. How can we guess that? well all is done now, next step now! All the best!!!

Thanks, you'll receive it soon now (i see your timeline). To reply to you, i'm a dual citizen so i had to deal with the consulate of my native country for the BC. For Canadians born, yes you have to get it at the civil registry office...of the province. Where they deliver all the civil documents...you can easily find it online by googling it in your area (if you are the beneficiary-applicant), they give all the info needed and the form also.

On my ds-230 insturctions, they give a link:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html. where they say for BC: "each applicant will need to obtain an original birth record (or a certified copy of the original, obtained from the issuing governement authority) The certificate must contain: person's date of birth, place of birth, names of both (in bold) parents and Annotation by the appropriate authority indicating that it is an extract from the official records."

If you have other questions, don't hesitate.

Regards.
