From Egypt, on a k-1 visa, the ticket has to be a round trip ticket or he/she won't be allowed to board.

Stupid of course because he won't be using the going back part anytime in the near future, unless it stays valid for like 3 years! ughh...

Our travel agent said so, Lufthansa said so, airport officials said so. His father has connections with people in the airport and even called to find out, all said yes, must be round trip. I thought I did all the research on this subject but apparently NOT.

On a k-3 the person is already a spouse and can legally be in the country whereas a fiance has no right to be here unless married in 90 days and so must have a round trip ticket in case of whatever cold feet maybe?

whatever, whatever, i hate everything about this stupid process...

Just letting those egypt k-1 visa people know.

I do remember someone's fiance trying to leave Egypt on a one way and was forced to buy a round trip leg before he was allowed to depart. But I am sure others have traveled on a one way too....anyone?

Regarding Lufthansa, it is not the policy of that airline. My husband left Morocco on Lufthansa on a one way ticket with a fiance visa. I called the airline, their policy is that if the traveler does not have the correct documentation to enter the US without needing a roundtrip, they will prevent the traveler from boarding. I explained the K-1 visa and Lufthansa had no problems with a one way. Perhaps in countries that may enact this policy is is best to arrive at the airport with the correct documents beyond the visa (eg explaining from DOS or USCIS website) to show the validity of traveling with a one way.

No one at the US POE will require a round trip for entry.

This post is a ggod example of why you should have a round trip ticket. Anything can happen in 90 days:

Yes, it does suck. I had to deal with the same thing while living in the Philippines and brought my fiancee to live with me there.

yea i tried calling Lufthansa's Cairo airport office, no answer... the phone rings and rings and rings some more, then other times i just get a busy signal..

during business hours too. Guess it's a policy specific to the country not a general airline rule like it should be. anyway i'm not surprised, everything's messed up in egypt.

Wonder when they decided to change all this? I'm so glad we are done with this part. I swear, one day when I'm old and I have lost my mind, I'll probably be sitting in a rocking chairs, droolling on myself mumbling bad things about Cairo. B)

This happened to Hicham when he came here. The office where he bought his ticket didn't understand that a K-1 visa is for marriage and that Hicham would adjust his status when he got here. I called and tried to explain that a one way ticket is fine but they wouldn't have it. It turns out that if he had bought the ticket at another office then he could have gotten a one way ticket.

It's frustrating isn't it?

I was going to say must be an egypt thing, because I remember our old pal Jean, when her fiance or husband was at the airport, ready to go and she had to rush to get him money to get the round trip ticket and was so stressed out! I didn't recall it being a Morocco issue. Like MBP, my husband came on Lufthansa on a K1 without incident. Seems like such a waste of money when dollars to donuts he won't use the other part. Maybe you can make the return way out, and he'll be able to go and visit family later.

i think that may be specific to countries, if i recall right nessa had to have a round trip ticket also. really wasn't a big deal as a round trip was cheaper than a one way. never have figured out why

It maybe more airline related than country specific. Airlines want to see that you have the proper documents to travel before they allow you on the plane. this is the way Lufthamsa explained it to me. It may be the staff eorking for the airline difffers in each country also.
