I'd think the hardest part would be getting ppl to try it. It doesn't look very appetizing but it's sooo yummy. I've never seen a koshari shop here. We have plenty of Arabs but not a lot of Egyptians around here. I would think that NY, PA and DC would be your best bet for looking into koshari shops.

There's a small chain in my area (3 stores) called house of Falafel. I haven't tried anything other than the falafel yet but it's good.

www.houseoffalafel.com

I guess they specialize in falafel and shawerma. Never had shawerma, and I'm guessing unless they can make it without meat I won't be trying it anytime soon.

I don't see Koshari on the menu.

I'm surprised there aren't any places by Moody!

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

I love koshari but to be honest, I don't know if it'd have the same appeal if it didn't carry all the memories with it. When I cook it the house smells like Egypt, when I eat it I remember my husband and all the sounds of Cairo, etc.

Just don't know if I'd love it as much if I had never been to Egypt so not sure if it would really take off here in Boston if you were to open up a koshari restaurant.

Then again I thought that American Idol was a real stupid idea when it first came out so what the heck do I know about what people want.

I think that middle eastern food lacks in most places in the US.

Even in Boston, we only have a few:( There is a falafal place in Central Square that is quite good. Boston Sharma and Sharma King. Those are the only 3 I've tried so far. Not much more than that I'm afraid from what I've seen:(

Best mid east food I've tried personally is in NYC. But then again, if you cannot find something in NYC, you just might need to get some bifocals:)

Aside from that, everyone I meet who has been to the Dearborn, MI area says that's got the best mid east food EVER known on US soil. But.....the fact that it has the highest concentration of arabs in the US has something to do with that I'm sure;)

June 14, 2007 Sent I130 to Vermont Service Center via USPS overnight

June 15, 2007 Confirmed on usps.com that VSC has received packet

June 29, 2007 Check cashed by USCIS (hey they opened my packet!)

June 30, 2007 Received NOA1

July 7, 2007 I130 touched

July 9, 2007 I130 touched

July 10, 2007 I130 touched

Aug. 24, 2007 I130 touched

Aug. 26, 2007 I130 touched (stop feeling up my husband's case and get him over here, yala!)

Oct. 1, 2007 On my way to Palestine

Oct. 5, 2007 I130 approved, transferrerd to NVC YAY!!!!

Oct. 16, 2007 Return to US, ranks one of the saddest day of my life:(

Oct. 27, 2007 Agent form/AOS bill received from NVC

Nov 1, 2007 Overnighted AOS payment to NVC

Nov. 29, 2007 Received AOS form from NVC

Dec. 20, 2007 overnighted I864 packet to NVC

yeah I'm seeing quite a few Bostonians on this board. Kinda cool!

Oh yeah and for the Bostonians.....in my "hood" we have Safy Market. They are a halal store but they have recently opened up a mini restaurant. They have the best kebabs east of Boston (so far in my neverending quest to find middle eastern food anyways:)

The guys watch soccer ane me too, lol

I bored my husband to death watching a rugby match on tv. lol

Mine does not appear to be a sports fanatic (he's got a lot of catching up to do and in for a big surprise when I ask him to take me to a Revolutions or a Celtics or a Red Sox game, lol)

Yeah north end I haer is great for soccer. bars, coffee shops. Ok, we don't go to bars but if we can find a coffe shop that has soccer matches that is great.

Either way a get together would be kinda fun!

Yup, that was me. Cafe Paradiso is where it's at!

Oh, and Safy Market. Is that the one on Broadway, Revere?

ETA: I think there are lots of ME places to eat around Boston. A few I know of:

Tangierino, Charlestown (Moroccan)

Rami's in Brookline

Cafe Jaffa in the Back Bay

Sabra Grill in Harvard Square

Karoun in Newton

Zuzu in Central Square

We are a fairly middle sized town (historical) 1 hour south of Washington DC. We have several Middle Eastern places. The one that I LOVE and serves Koshery is called Kabob and Hookah. And yeah....they have Hookah....(sniffs...hmmm) They do Mahshi and Koshery, as well as kabobs, Falafel wraps and Falafel gyros, salads, Cucumber and yogurt salad, Baba Ganoush (spelling???) and many other items I saw in Egypt. On weekends they have belly dancers and u can view Arab TV and Arab sports channels. They play Arabic Music via Satelite Radio. Each time I've been for lunch in mid week they have customers. Its owned and operated by a younger Egyptian couple from Alexandria area. Nice people. BUT....first time I was there...hehehee....I assumed they'd give me the SAME service Im used to here. Service was GREAT till check time. My mom and I sat...and sat...and waited..and waited.....wasn't till a few visits later I realized that when my SO wanted the check...he got the waiters attention and ASKED....NOW it goes MUCH faster!!!! LOL. But I think we could use MORE Middle Eastern cafes, restaurants, food stores and clothing stores. I do have a Halal butcher and one Middle Eastern restaurant here has a Middle Eastern Grocery store....I've driven by (its small) but haven't gone in yet. Someone opens one up for KOSHERY on the eastern sea board...I'LL BE THERE...I LOVE Koshery!!!
