Thinking the same thing......................what a 'tard.

At least I'm not in such a pathetic state in my life that I have to go all the Thailand to find a companion. You are the 'tard.

Apparently you or your fiance are coming all the way from another country, so please, do not pass judgment on others. If you weren't, you wouldn't be here. EVERYONE on this site is bringing loved ones from other countries, so it is a VERY BAD move for you to be insulting people who find love in far off places.

This is a support forum, so if you cannot be supportive, please, do not post.

Would this have anything to do with special attention Cubans receive?

http://www.cubasocialista.com/adjust1.htm

"Law number 89, known as the Cuban Adjustment act, was adopted by the US congress on the 2nd of November of 1966, under the Lyndon Johnson administration. It's main provisions was to change the legal status of the Cuban immigrants; to treat them as political refugees and to grant them political asylum; and as such provide them immediately with privileges that no other group enjoys, such as, automatic permanent residence status - all without review and without the usual waiting time.

This privileged law affords the Cuban illegal immigrant the opportunity, to work legally, to govt. welfare, to unemployment benefits, and to free medical care, things that the average immigrant by no means is entitled to."

It is mentioned many times on the I-485 that Cuban immigrants do not have to meet the same requirements as others do. I know the OP isn't there in his process yet, but if it applies to AOS, maybe it applies here, too.

I may be way off base here. I'm usually the one reading other's info, not the one supplying it :P.

too bad Elian Gonzalaz wasn't given that protection.

I thought that, too. Maybe you have to do the process legally for it to apply. I dunno.

i think it just made too much news; it was an embarrassment to Castro. therefore, he had to try and show that people were NOT drowning just to try and escape Cuba an bring their kids to another country.

i just hope the kid's happy. how traumatic would that be for a 6y/o to lose his mother, then be literally torn from the arms of his uncle, by some freakin swat team. all for political reasons, no one (in the government) cared about the kid's welfare; they didn't want to piss Castro off.

no one has to convince me that living in Cuba is a hardship.

I don't understand...How did you meet your fiance, then?

I don't understand...How in THE world is that any of your business?

Why don't you worry about yourself?

They make the account, post a rude comment, and then disappear. Hmm...

It would be nice to know how they met, considering the difficulties the poster said they faced. Reading over it, it seems impossible that they could ever meet, let alone continue to communicate. It was just curiosity, I guess.

If no one wants other's help, why would they even be on a relationship support forum?

I need to address this issue since I started the thread. First and Fremost, I am not the poster "getalife" nor did I make an account just to past rude comments. I have no clue who this poster is nor do I care. I don't need to hide behind a ghost poster to state my views! I however, do care about my own reputation and why I am here in this forum. Like the rest of you, I am here to learn, to share and to prepare myself so I too can be next to my loved one ASAP. I shared my stories to make readers aware of our unique situation and challanges directly or indirectly relating to K-1 Visa issues. I choose not to share my detail information that may effect me and readers must understand and respect my wishes. I Frequently discussed the travel restrictions to Cuba but sadly some readers need to have everything spelled out for them. Travel is not permitted without a lisence from the Treasury Department, phone calls can be made if you are willing to pay 2 bucks a minute, letters can be delivered via DHL in Holland.....Get the point? It is not impossible to meet or communicate with your loved one, but rather difficult and costly. However, love seems to bypass all barriers in life......So please try to understand and act accordingly...

I actually don't remember reading where anyone accused you of being the poster "getalife"... This reminds me of that saying about throwing a rock into a pack of dogs, and the first one to gets hit, yelps.

You don't have to share your information with us, but don't go whining about how hard it is to even MEET in Cuba if you're not going to supply some information about how you yourself did. This is an anonymous form, it's not like we're monitoring your computer trying to catch you in confessing something illegal. No one here is going to lose sleep wondering "how in THE world" you met your fiance. This is a support forum, we were simply innocently asking you a question. We did not expect to get our heads bit off, nor do we have to have everything "spelled out" for us. So you met your fiance illegally, woopy do. I also don't understand how anyone failed to "act accordingly", God forbid anyone ask anyone else a simple question.

If you're going to start an informative post about how difficult it is to maintain a relationship in Cuba and persistently specify the challenges (ie. "spell it out") that an American-Cuban couple has to go through during the K1 process, expect that you're going to be asked - at some point - about your own situation. As you didn't mention in your original post that you didn't want to discuss your personal situation, don't be indignant that we're curious as to how you managed to cross that barrier yourself.

Actually, it was mentioned that the OP could have been the poster "getalife".

I shall request for a final time that everyone in this thread keeps things polite and on an even keel.

Thank you. :)

I reread the thread and still don't see where anyone suggested the OP was "getalife". Sorry if I'm overlooking it.

I thought they were the same. And others referred to them being the same.

Whatevs, though. If the OP doesn't care to share, then fine.

But I wouldn't worry about your "reputation" on VJ. Why do you care what we "think?" People are for the most part imaginary on here anyway. Not to go all Dear Abby, but people can only make you feel bad with your consent.

I fail to see why you refuse to answer this. If the situation in Cuba is that restrictive, why not offer up advice to other couples that are in that position? On the off chance another American/Cuban couple has somehow found this forum, wouldn't you be happy to know your advice helped them find a way to obtain their visa? What could they put on their application that will help them get approved so that they can be together?

I don't think any of us care if you did it legally or not. Personally, I think the embargo is stupid and obviously didn't bring about whatever effect it was hoped it would bring. I'd be happy to see it removed, as I've heard Cuba is a wonderful place to visit.

I thought that, too. Maybe you have to do the process legally for it to apply. I dunno.

Elian Gonzalez had blood parent in another country. The US has no business keeping the child from his father. Unfortunate, but true.

Hi all,

Maybe what is needed is to put this thread back with some perspective. Our new friend "ischia" has some understandable apprehension about telling us his story of how they met. I can understand that because it is illegal for USCs to travel to Cuba and vice versa, but unless you are Micheal Moore, the feds dont really care and somehow I dont think they monitor this board.

"ischia", its cool not tell your whole story. My apologies if I seemed to badger earlier, it wasnt intentional. But keep in mind that VJ is essentially here for us all to help each other and the more we share of our stories, the more people will be able to help you out if you have troubles later on.

So anyway, lets all be good to each other. Its hard enough to deal with the USCIS and being seperated from our SOs after all.
