Is Pregnancy A Problem?

My wife is 4 months pregnant. Is that going to create a problem for us in anyway for the VISA/Interview? We should get an approval in US by the end of the month, and I am thinking that we might be scheduled for an interview end of September if we are lucky. Also I am concerned about the medical. I am sure there are some shots which she cannot take being that she is pregnant. Any expert advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jas

I know that if you are pregnant then you cannot get an x-ray done. As far as the shots, your wife will have to ask her doctor advice about that.

Her being pregnant is not a reason for denial..... they may ask her if you know she is pregnant, they may also ask if you are the father... any medical issues she has with the pregnancy may have issues about her flying but as for the shots she will need they can be done after the baby is born...

I beleive many airlines do not want women onboard flights during the third trimester of pregnancy. So if the visa arrives during the third trimester it may be best to wait until your wife and child are healthy enough to travel.

As previously stated, many of the vaccinations may need to be administered after the pregnancy.

I would suggest searching and or asking in the regional or Embassy forums. I think this question has been asked a few times before.

I just want to try my best to get her over here so the baby is born on US soil... and not in India. I also hear that if the baby is born in India then we have to re-file documents for the baby also....

No you do not have to file again. If you're a US citizen then your child is by default also. You will just have to go to your Embassy take her full birth certificate and fill out some form and then get an American Passport. Upon entry to the US it gets stamped and that is PROOF of your baby's citizenship. They may send some paper that is sort of like a citizenship/born on foreign soil, but I am not sure.

My daughter was born in Ireland. It looks INCREDIBLY EASY. Go to the Indian US Embassy's website and look under passports I think.

May 2005 - met Chris on message board

July 2005 - came to the states to meet me

July 2005 - got engaged

Aug. 2005 - Decided we couldn't wait

Sept. 2005 - came to visit, plan wedding

Oct. 4, 2005 - Got married

Oct. 16, 2005 - moved to Ireland

If you are a USC and the biological father and you have spent more than 5 years in the US (at least two of them after you were 14), then your son is automatically a US citizen and you just need to apply for a US passport for him.

I can't answer how pregnancy will affect the approval process. However, your child will be a US citizen, even if not born in the US. You just have to have resided in the US for more than 5 years since your birth. The only downside is that your child won't be able to run for president.

Congrats! and best of luck!

Jas, your wife's visa will not be denied because she is pregant. Her arrival here might be delayed. I would check with the airline that you were planning to use about their policies. I remember reading on another thread that one airline did allow women in their third trimester to take long haul flights, but that most didn't. Also, CONGRATS :thumbs:

Ha! Good point! That is so weird that I just automatically wrote "your son" like that. I think it must be because I was just commenting on someone else's thread who did have a son.

PS Take a look at my timeline

Jas,

First of all, Congrats on your wife's pregnancy. Your wife being pregnant will not cause problem with her visa petition/interview. For her medical -> if the Panel Physician will insisit on doing CXR, they will be asking her to wear the "abdominal shield" to protect the baby. Regarding the vaccines, live vaccines are contraindicated to pregnant women and this includes: MMR and Varicella Vaccines. Although TD is not known to be "teratogenic", some OB-Gyn would not want to give the TD shots during the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Although she will not be given these vaccines, she will not be denied either. The Panel Physicians will just make a "remark" that the vaccines are not given due to pregnancy and that it will have to be given at a later time (in the US, after giving birth).

Regarding travel: Most airlines would not allow pregnant women to travel when they are more than 6 months age of gestation. You don't have to worry about this, since when your child is born, he/she is automatically a USC and you just need to apply for a US passport for your child.

Good Luck!

HELEN
