Does anyone know how long a Thai passport is good for? My son is in an internet cafe in Hua Hin and that is the only question he can't fill out on the DS-156 because he forgot to bring her current passport with him. She's at work.

Their interview is Thursday, so they are headed to Bangkok tomorrow. It's too bad the DS-156 is bar-coded form.

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

Thanks! I am not exactly thrilled that he is procrastinating. I should have made him stay in scouting until he really learned what "be prepared" meant.

I guess he did have everything else the form requires, which is a lot of info., so I shouldn't be so harsh. As long as they get to the visa interview with everything.... They got married (registered at the Amphur) a day later than planned because he missed a step in the paperwork.

I appreciated your quick reply.

No, I am in Philly. I used to live in Wilmington years ago......Actually on Long Beach Island south of Wilmington, north of myrtle beach.

Yes, I just looked at my wifes too, 5 years.

Tomorrow, (or her right now) my wife and step-daughter are going to BKK to get the youngins' passport.

I wonder how long that is good for?

So just got back from Thailand.

Went to the hospital for her physical. She left her paperwork from the Phuket hospital behind, so she had no documentation of what shots she'd already received. They told her even if she had brought it they were going to make her redo all the shots again. Shots were 2,000 baht and they want her to come back when she comes in for the interview for the 2nd round. Which is frustrating for both her and me as she had just gotten them a few months ago and she hates getting shots (and I hate paying for them). Met another Thai (Issan) lady at the hospital who has a fiance in Michigan. She was really shy when it came to speaking English, so I didn't find out much more information out of her. Her and my fiancee talked for quite a while though.

We finally got a new Interview date with the embassy. It was pushed back to August 18th. Grrrrr. 3 weeks delay because they screwed up their scheduling, not to mention the expense and hassle of having to fly her in a rush to Bangkok to get the police report in time for the original date. Oh well, at least we know when it is happening. Hopefully everything will go smoothly.

We went over the paperwork a couple dozen times and we've got it all organized according to the packet 4. I'll scan the packet 4 and post it up here in the next few days.

Welcome back shawndoc,

I'm sorry to hear about your hassles. It sounds like she is very prepared for her interview. I just hope my kids are ready, as my DIL's is 24 hours away. He is there with her, but I'm not sure if that is good or bad. He can be a bit distracting and tends to think anything is possible, even if the ducks aren't all neatly lined up. He's definitely not the engineering type. I hope they paid attention to packet four. They're leaving for Bangkok about now, as she has to pick up her police report and get another round of immunizations. She's not exactly excited about that.

At least they've spent enough time together and endless hours talking, so she should know everything about him.

I'm trying not to hold my breath. I'm not even the one in love, but I do strongly believe that they were meant for each other.

I'm sure it would be helpful to others if packet four were posted. August 18th will be here before you know it.

thai family,

my husband's passport is good for 5 years but he also got an extension affixed to it. i can ask him about that when i get home (if he's awake) i do know it's good for another 5 years. i bet it's a faster process than a new passport? GOOD LUCK!!!

shawndoc,

welcome back and thai mom is right the next few weeks will fly by. GOOD LUCK to you as well.

Thanks Kang Lang,

My DIL's renewed her passport right after their marriage in October. My son was filling out the DS-156 at an internet cafe and didn't know the expiration date, thus the question. So much for filling out paperwork at the last minute, especially when it's a bar-coded form that can't be saved, you don't have your printer, it's late at night, and you have to go pick up your wife from work. I don't know for sure if he got the date in there or not. If he didn't, and just wrote it in, hopefully the CO won't send them away to completely redo it. Please pray a little prayer for them if you are so inclined. They need it!

Wouldn't worry about it. There were a few items I had left blank (did most of the paperwork in the USA) and filled in neatly with black ink once I arrived in Bangkok. The children's passport info was one of these as they obtained them a week before the interview. I have seen people fill in blanks at the embassy (they turned in docs without info; the CO had them fill it in on the spot).

Best of luck to your son and DIL at the interview!

Maybe the cops don't hit up farang women for cash every chance they get. They sure do it to farang men. Happened to me and many of mates multiple times during the 3 years I lived there. I'm not bashing anyone. It's just a fact that the police in Thailand are corrupt. It's like the sun rising in the East every day. Personally, I think it has it's advantages. I would love it if the next time the Texas State Police pulled me over, I could give them $3 and be on my way. It is what it is. Nothing more, nothing less.

LOL, try getting stopped by a N. Carolina state trooper 3am 10 miles over the speed limit on 95 north....

ya know us damn yankees and all... :) it cost me more than $3... :)

never had a problem with the police, just those wonderful tuk-tuk drivers.

Hi Tom,

I live in Durham, NC and I know several of Thai girls in Raleigh that your fiance can talk to when she gets here. And there's a Thai temple in Knightsdale and a lot of Thai family (a pretty big Thai community) in Raleigh so I'm sure she will defiinately have someone to talk to. I myslef havnt talk to my Thai friend very often - very busy with work, my garden, and our animals and the hours in a day is never enough to do anything

Also there's a member name CJ and Jum and they both live in Cary but close to Raleigh - you can try to contact him too  Also Alvin lives in NC.

Thanks! It's nice to know a blank or two won't shoot their interview down automatically. Thanks for sharing the links to packet four. My goal is to get a lot of work done today and hopefully we'll get a call before midnight with good news.
