I am going to be applying for the I751 in October. I never changed my last name..is this a problem? Do I need to change it before I apply? and if so, my original name will be on all our documents together. What do you suggest?

hodes,

I suggest that you tell us whether or not you want to change you surname. It's a matter of personal choice - some people do, others do not.

In the event that your answer is 'yes, I want to change my surname' I suggest that now is as good a time as any.

No I wanted to keep my name but if it was going to be a problem for the 751 paperwork, I would change it if I had to. I wanted to know if the immigration people care either way. If its part of the marriage evidence or simply a personal preference.

a lot of people don't change their name... I don't think it would cause a problem at all...

I agree.

I changed my last name but his name was way better than mine lol

It really is a matter of a personal choice. Some people blend their last names together and some people change over and some people just keep their names as they are and either way it shouldn't make or break anything regarding your paperwork.

hodes,

If you don't want to change your name then don't. My wife didn't.

Hello Hodes:

I don't think that will be a problem because I did not change mine, also. That is totally your personal choice I guess.
