Goodday Everyone,

I mailed off our ORINIGAL marriage cert, my birth cert, and my police report for the I-130 and we have already be scheduled for an interview with I-129 on the 11 of this month...Is it possible for the NVC to have sent the original documents to the US Consulate in Lagos Nigeria before my interview because on the form they said" You will get your original documents back at the time of the interview"..........Please help me what am i going to do, i am really confused.

I mailed copies of all those documents for the I-130 because the instructions said that you can send them copies, if you choose to send originals they may keep them. The originals should be brought to the interview by the beneficiary, I have no idea what documents the consulate will receive from the NVC. I think the reason you are supposed to bring the originals to the interview is so they can see the original of all the copies. I'm sorry to say this but you shouldn't expect to get any of those things back. Do you have a color copy of your marriage certificate? (I'm assuming you got married in or around Lagos). The registry wouldn't give us two original marriage certificates in Lagos so we took the original to xerox and had a color copy made then we went back to the registry and asked them to put their seal on it. If you have a color copy you could try doing that too. The original birth certificate is no big deal, you can get another from your state for a small fee. Why did you mail them your police report? Is there something i missed in the instructions???? Or is this an IMBRA thing?

Thanks Divine Mercy on the instruction packet i got from the NVC they told me to send the original copy of our marriage cer,birth cert,police report or certified copies, that i will get my original documents back at the time of the interview thay is what they said on the packet and i sent them the originals......I hope i am going to get the originals at the time of the interview becos i belive that the cosular officer would already have my whole case file infront of him before interviewing me

I believe they will return all of the originals to you at the interview day. However, sending original documents is very very risky. They do give you the option to send a certified copy anyways. Never ever do that again.

If you sent original documents with the I-130 petition, what did you send with the I-129f petition? Photocopies that you made prior to sending off the originals?

The documents that you sent with the I-130 will remain in the I-130 file. Has the NVC finished assembling the case for the immigrant visa petition and have they sent the case file to the consulate in Lagos?

If not, do not plan on the documents being available for the K3 visa interview. If so, the interview should be for an immigrant visa, not a K3 visa.

On the form i got from the NVC they told me to send the originals or the certifies copies that i would get my original documents back at the time of the interview and yes they have sent the case file to the US consulate in lagos and i have also been scheduled for an interview on the 11th of this month which is 8days from now. But i have all the copies of the originals that i sent to the NVC do you think the consular officer will accept the copies instead of the originals for the interview?
