Question for UK embassy interviews

Basically the way it works is that for a K1 you have to give copies of the original marriage certificate along with your K1 visa application.

That was the wording that made me think it was required for the application/petition. But, she clarified it now so now I get what she meant.

And yes, I think we all agree that you need it for the interview. Sorry if I confused the OPs original point.

ok so where would i get the original marriage certificate from.. my solicitors? (if they save files from way back) or the courts where we got married?

Lina (UKC)

Original Marriage Certificate can be obtained from the Registry office that covers the area where the marriage took place. The court should be able to tell you where marriages carried out there are registered. Give the Registry Office a ring, they will verify they have it recorded, you should be able to order it on the telephone or in person.

Basically the way it works is that for a K1 you have to give copies of the original marriage certificate along with your K1 visa application. Then when you attend for interview you have to take the original marriage certificate with you (you can get copies from the Registrar's office) along with the original divorce certificate to prove that this marriage was terminated.

They may not ask you for it, but the point is you have to take it with you in and be prepared to show it to them if they do ask.

The same when you come to AOS. You have to provide copy of all previous marriage certificates and copies of all divorce certificates relating to those marriages. Our AOS was nearly not approved because they couldn't find the copy of my husband's first marriage certificate which happened nearly 30 years ago!

Be prepared!

I didnt include my marriage certificate in the original application just my divorce decree. Hope there is no RFE for that... we are still waiting for noa2.

As perfect explained in a later post, she was asked at the INTERVIEW for the marriage certificate.

You should have plenty of time to get a copy of yours for the interview.

I'm trying to get mine back from the court office that dealt with my divorce (only last year) but they are being very SLOW - my lawyer said a copy (ie an official document from the court) would only cost 7 quid and should only take a week or so to obtain ( as opposed to the current 4 MONTHS so far with no result from the original court) so I think i may have to do that.
