No call yet. I've been awake since 2 am. Just can't sleep through an anxiety attack. Hahaha. I'm getting pretty uptight because he hasn't called yet. But I also know last time he was at the Embassy from the time he was at the gate until he was finished, almost 10 hours. This time they worked him in, so I'm just assuming he isn't able to call yet. I had to call in to work and tell them I would be in later today. I'm too messed up again from no sleep and the anxiety. Man a week of this crud has been too much. I'm still praying...

They grilled him for 30 minutes. We hit a snag. I don't know if we will make it through or not. I'm really crying at the moment so I hope this is coherent. I have been temporarily staying with my ex since my return so I could find a full time job and an apartment. Well I succeeded in doing both, however my apartment, the only affordable one I could find that wasn't in a really bad neighborhood, is still under construction and due to be completed in 2 to 4 weeks. I think you all already know what the embassy said. Yes they know. She explained to Mohammed that she could see he really loved me and was sincere, but without proof of a lease they can't grant the visa. She gave him a letter to take to TNT to forward the copy of the lease to them. The problem is, there is no lease yet because the building isn't finished. I have an application on file along with my cashed deposit, but I know that won't suffice. Mohammed got tears in eyes and said to her "please, I love her, does this mean I can't get the visa now?" She said "have her send the lease and we will decide."

I suppose she easily could have said no. Maybe we still have a 50/50 chance. My ex will write a letter explaining he granted me permission to stay here until I could get on my feet simply because I had nowhere else to go and he thought it best for the children then me going to another state to stay with my parents and uprooting them. I have busted myself to rebuild my life quickly and successfully, but it was all for Mohammed. And now that I feel this slipping through my fingers I am broken.

Mohammed said to me that he has one big happiness in his heart. They can't deny our relationship, they can't break that. We have our love and we will find some way if this falls through. I really don't know what to think right now. I don't know if I should have hope or just resign myself to the fact they will either send a flat denial or send us to AR hell for the next year. I am just beside myself... I don't know what to think.

Jean,

Just a thought you had to give a deposit to someone for the upcoming apartment? Can you not get them to write a letter on letterhead stating your apt is under construction right now and show copies of the cancelled check as well? I know it would help since they can see you have something already planned for the future as well as your ex stating that you and the kids are living with him so the kids can finish classes without being up rooted and moved to another state. Stay positive it is just another bump in the road.

I'm so sorry this has caused a problem for you :( I think you can find a way around it though. What was the objection, exactly? Was it that you had no current lease or that you were staying with your ex?

I'm sure you can get the building management to write a letter stating that your deposit is on file, that the expected move-in date is __... perhaps that will suffice?

You're going to find a way to make this work, I know it. Right now you feel completely devastated, I know, but you can do it. I would suggest posting on the K-1 forum and ask for suggestions, someone there may have had a similar situation.

Lots of hugs,

Sharon

Sorry to hear of yet another hitch in your case.

Sharon had an excellent suggestion. And if that fails to sway the consulate, then it's a 2-4 week delay to get an actual lease from the apartment ? I guess that's the best you can do.

I know you had hoped your fiance would walk away with the visa today, but it just doesn't happen like that very often. Please try not to take these delays so hard, sweetie. This process is almost NEVER easy for anyone, and much less for folks from the Middle East/North Africa. There are so many variables.... it's just not worth getting all worked up over each one. And I'm sorry to mention this, but you need to brace yourself for a very likely administrative review, even after all the documents are in. As you know, Catherine and m_hafiz waited 4 1/2 months for their ARs to finish.... of course we all hope you won't face such a long wait, but it could happen.

Now put this in your head and keep it there: You were not issued a denial or anything like that, al7amdolallah. In fact it seems that the people at the consulate are very willing to work with you (apart from the jerks at the call center.) You will get your visa insha'allah. It just probably won't happen as fast as we would all like for you.

There IS a positive side. What if he had gotten the visa today ? You have no place to put him for the next few weeks, other than at your ex's (now THAT would be an interesting equation :P ) So actually it's for the best.... insha'allah everything will work itself out after you're settled in your new apartment. The move should keep you pretty busy, so hopefully you won't have so much time to dwell on all the worries.

Please don't cry anymore :luv: ... just keep focusing on that happy future which will soon be your reality !

That is a tough one, but it is not insurmountable really!! Don't let it make you feel so broken down, please!!! Try to get the letter like has already been suggested and get the lease when you can finally get a copy of that. I know it takes more time, but that is part of what they do before they approve the visa . . . Having that all important "domicile" established in the U.S. And it doesn't mean you will be stuck in AR hell for a year after that. Insha'allah, only a short time after you submit the papers they require.

Take care,

Catherine

Thank you all. Mohammed said the same. They could have easily said "denied" and didn't. She told Mohammed she could see in his eyes he really loves me, so at least there is no doubt about the credibility of our relationship even though there is an age difference. God she even asked him "Don't you want children?" He said, "I want Jean. I want my life with her back. The rest is in Allah's hands. I just want my Jean and that's all." (And HOW is this any of their business anyway... to even presume I can't have children... well that just frosts my cake.)

Let me ask you guys this... what about asking the Embassy via email which they would prefer-- a copy of my application form, cashed deposit check and letter from the apartment complex or the actual lease, and inform them of the situation?

I want to share one little ray of sunshine with the people on this forum (even though its hard to let into my own heart right now).

Mohammed said on the train ride back he was sitting in tears and listening to "our" CD when a thought came to him that made him smile. We still have our love and nothing will break our relationship. Not even the government.

I pray to god the worst to come from this is an AR. I am inconsolable right now although I should have seen this coming. I want my husband back. Thank you again for your words. Maybe they will help me put the pieces back together today somehow.
