Hello Everyone,

Well as time draws near and we will soon be married I was wonder how soon after we get married can we file the adjustment of status and the advanced parole papers. I know that reading here in the instructions for getting a Social Security card we should wait at least two weeks after entry into the US so that the info will be in the system. And as the sponsor (US citizen) when filing out the affidavit of support can I use my married name? I'm hoping to get my Social Security changed right away and use my married name, as these documents will be filed after we are married. I hope this is not too confusing..lol

We filed as soon as we could (within 2 weeks).. . As soon as you have the copy of the marraige certificate you can file as far as I can tell!

In theory, you can start preparing your documents 5 seconds after the marriage and file the same day.

In a best case hypothetical situation you can start preparing some of your documents before your marriage and then file 5 seconds after your are married.....

It used to be 6 seconds (average) but it was determined that you could actually put the postage on the envelope before the marriage thus saving some time....

Just remembered what held us up.. finding a Civil Surgeon.. make sure you get that lined up.. if you are planning on doing the Vaccination Suppliment.. That held us up a bit past filing 5 secs after the wedding

Um, you can do the medical exam after you file--as long as it's before the interview.

Jim's medical was done when he interviewed for his K-1 in june and yes I already have the paperwork done and ready to go, it will however takes us a bit longer then say 6 seconds..we are going to file the Monday after the wedding....

For the record it wasn't the full medical I was referring to. IF you choose to have a Civil Surgeon do the Suppliment to the I-693 that may take a bit of time to arrange for... Grant it you can do it before marraige whenever the non-USC gets to the US. It is on the list of initial evidence that the I-485 asks you to send WITH the initial submission.

I had all the papers filled out as best I could then after getting married finished them up and got them out 2 days after the wedding...

Can't you just send the vaccination worksheet instead of having the civil surgeon complete the I 693?
