At least in Russia we have a shot of fitting in. We could rock the tight shirts and black socks, keep our mouths shut and chain smoke while we were waiting.

Try doing that outside the embassy in Seoul! There's no way you could fit in there. The embassy in Lagos would probably have most of us sticking out as well.

Funny thing is, the one place we'd probably almost fit in, is Berlin.

So I called and they sent the packet info June 20th and the interview is Aug. 22!!! Hopefully we will get the passport and visa back before Aug 31 when I (we) leave. Will someone explain the prepaid DHL process? Can we request they leave the passport at the DHL office so we can pick it up instead of delivering it to us??? I fugure it will take 4 days or a week to recieve the visa and passport so anytime shaved off will help since we have only 9 days from interview to when i leave. I miss Milenka by 1 day.

DHL process is explained in the packet, but basically it boils down to this -

The beneficiary goes to the DHL office, gets a prepaid slip, then gives that to the C/O at the interview detailing where the approved visa will be sent. It can contain special instructions "to be held at DHL office in Moscow" or whichever DHL office or residence your S/O desires to receive it. If you elect to have it held at the office, it's possible to pick it up the next day after the interview. (Possible. Depends on visa issuance date. All up to the embassy. Usually next day, but could be more. I'm sure if your S/O explained the time crunch, they could expedite it for her.)

Not sure of packet size (never actually saw it) but if it doesn't fit, they'll still get it to her. She'll have to pick it up, or they'll knock really loud at her door!

If you're only a day away from Milenka, you won't miss her at all. You'll be in Moscow at the same time. Have some coffee. Better yet, have a beer! Sure wish I was gonna be there too!

Awesome news, GOOD LUCK!!!

It's a standard full paper envelope. It is not even 1/2 an inch thick. But it is delivered by the Russian postal system. So I doubt they'll go out of their way to hand deliver or make a big effort to give it to her.

Great news about the interview date! I don't know if you guys are staying in Moscow after the interview, we could always meet for coffee, if you want :) just PM me, I am arriving in Moscow from Warsaw on August 22nd, Seryozha lives about 1 hour from the center...we are still waiting for the packet from the embassy so, I can't help you with DHL, but there are lots of people here can.

Just got back into JFK a few hours ago.

Maple syrup isn't big outside of North America. Caviar, honey, jam, sour cream, etc...

Significant improvement on the Pa-Roosky? Or, just a little more familiar now?

For the first two weeks, I tried to understand everything. It is a lot of effort trying to understand a language you don't fully comprehend. Very tiring. I could follow pieces of conversations for about half an hour. Very tiring. By the last week, I essentially gave up. Russian has improved, but I need to be back in class this fall.

I am better at reading and writing than speaking still. Conversational Russian I starts in August - should help me for next time.

I called the DOS number on Wednesday and asked if they knew when the interview would be. The person I spoke with told me that Moscow had the electronic version of the file but didn't have the hardcopy yet. Further, she said that the embassy wouldn't schedule the interview until they had the hardcopy of the file.

It sounded, to me, like the embassy schedules the interview and Washington is among the first to know. I'll call again next week.

Either way the DOS will be able to tell you when the interview is, before it is posted on the embassy website, or before you get the letter in the post :) I hope you find out soon!
