I've noticed people mention having your passport stamped. I've used my passport many times to go visit my fiancee but they never stamped it once. Do they only stamp it when you come from countries other than Canada?

I guess it depends on which POE you're using. For instance, when I went to visit Bee I know I was stamped going into JFK and the pre-clearance customs in YVR (Vancouver International Airport), but another time going through YVR I wasn't given a stamp.

Depends on the officer. Some stamp and some don't! I only have received a handful of stamps out of all of my many visits.

Usually they just give me that look and tell me I don't need one.

I guess it depends who you get at the POE. I've travelled to and from the U.S. several times by bus and only got a stamp once, and that was a Canadian one. The only other times I've received stamps were when I flew! Even then, one time, the officer stamped my airplane boarding pass and not my passport!

I don't know about coming into the U.S. but when I travel to Canada they very rarely stamp it. I go about to MTL every three weeks for about the past year and have only had it stamped twice. I think the stamp is valid for 6 months and that is why they rarely stamp it. I imagine it is the same on the U.S side as well.

Thanks for posting everyone. I thought it was just me that they didn't stamp for. lol I always crossed by land in Detroit and they've never stamped it.

Nope, not just you. I've crossed the border at least 200 times in the 9 months, nary a stamp in sight. Even on my previous passport when I travelled to Germany I hadn't gotten a stamp. I have one lonely stamp in my passport right now from Heathrow, which isn't even legible.

Hmmm well I'm not sure if it's just the POE in Edmonton then or what but I got a stamp when I went through for my flight to the US and then a stamp when I came back home. As far as I know my sweetheart gets a stamp everytime he comes in and goes back as well. I think his passport is littered with them!

In theory, a Canadian going through an airport in Canada should get a stamp upon going through the PFI, and not get one re-entering Canada.

I stress the word theory.
